Kate Winslet is set to reunite with HBO for another limited series as she will star in and executive produce The Palace, which takes place over the course of one year within the walls of the palace of an authoritarian regime as it begins to unravel.

The Palace was created by Will Tracy (Succession), who will serve as showrunner, writer, and executive producer. Stephen Frears (The Queen) will direct and executive produce. “We are honored to be working with this incredibly talented group of filmmakers on The Palace,” said Francesca Orsi, executive vice president of HBO Programming. “The notion that Kate Winslet and Stephen Frears, two of our industry’s leading lights (who – remarkably – have never collaborated before now), are joining forces to bring Will Tracy’s wildly original, prescient, and dazzling scripts to life at HBO is a dream come true for us.

Kate Winslet and HBO go together like gin and tonic, so I’m more than ready for The Palace. After first starring in 2011’s Mildred Pierce, Winslet later starred in Mare of Easttown, for which she won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series. She’s also set to star in The Trust, a limited series based on the novel by Hernan Diaz. The series deals with a wealthy financier who reads a novel based on his own life and is dissatisfied by his and his wife’s portrayal. So he asks a secretary to ghostwrite his memoir and set the record straight. She, however, grows uncomfortably aware that he is rewriting history—and his wife’s place in it.

Before Kate Winslet enters The Palace, she will next be seen in James Cameron’s Avatar: The Way of Water as Ronal, a Na’vi warrior and member of the Metkayina tribe. The long-awaited Avatar sequel will hit theaters on December 16, 2022.
