Nina Kiri played the character Alma on 28 episodes of The Handmaid’s Tale, and now she has the lead role in a horror film called Undertone, which is stirring up a lot of buzz. A24 will be bringing the film to theatres on March 26th, and the hype is building, starting with the 3 a.m. unveiling of a trailer, which can now be seen in the embed above. Writer/director Ian Tuason had made his feature debut with this project after several years of making short films – and Undertone impressed the folks at Blumhouse Productions and Atomic Monster so much, Tuason has already been hired to make the next Paranormal Activity movie!

Synopsis

Coming our way from Slaterverse Pictures, Black Fawn Films, and KINO Studios, The Undertone follows the host of an ‘all-things-creepy’ podcast, who moves into her dying mother’s house to be her primary caregiver. When her podcast is sent 10 audio recordings of a young pregnant couple experiencing paranormal noises, she realizes the woman’s story is a mirror of her own and each new recording scratches at her sanity, drawing her into a fate she cannot escape. Kiri’s character Evy is the only on-camera speaking role in the entire film, but Adam DiMarco, Michèle Duquet, Keana Lyn Bastidas, and Jeff Yung are also in the cast.

Here’s the official synopsis: The host of a popular paranormal podcast becomes haunted by terrifying recordings mysteriously sent her way.

So much of the film relies on the sound design that Tuason has described it as a “found audio” movie rather than a “found footage” movie. It will be screening at the upcoming Sundance Film Festival, and JoBlo’s own Chris Bumbray will be there to check it out.

Statements

Tuason previously provided the following statement: “With Undertone, I’m crafting a horror experience that doesn’t just evoke fear—it engulfs you in it, using immersive sound design to make silence as terrifying as the unknown. Inspired by my own experience as a caregiver, the film explores how the stories we tell ourselves of fear, guilt, and isolation, can become the real horrors that haunt us.

The film was produced by Dan Slater and Cody Calahan, with Tuason serving as an executive producer alongside Chad Archibald, Daril Fannin, Brit MacRae, Anthony Eu, Douglas Lee, Al Akdari, Charles Bern, Mathew Sterling, and David Sproat.

Calahan said, “We’re always on the lookout for projects that stand out and have a meaningful story to tell. Ian has a truly unique vision, breaking free from tradition to create a horror experience that’s as bold as it is unnerving.” Slater added, “In an oversaturated market, Undertone will punch through the noise with its raw, unfiltered approach to fear, proving that true horror comes from a director willing to open up personally and take full creative control. We’re thrilled to help bring his voice to the screen.

A press release noted that this production marks the beginning of a multi-film collaboration between KINO Studios and Black Fawn Films, with their plan being to make multiple horror and thriller films together. Daril Fannin, who launched KINO Studios with Brit MacRae and is the company’s CEO, said that Undertone is “an unsettling, deeply psychological horror that lingers long after the credits roll. With Nina Kiri as our lead, we couldn’t have asked for a more perfect actor to bring this terrifying tale to life.

Undertone does look like it could be quite unsettling. What did you think of the trailer? Let us know by leaving a comment below.

Director Renny Harlin shot an entire trilogy of Strangers movies at the same time, and while there was a point when it looked like Lionsgate might be releasing all three of the movies within 2024, but that idea was clearly pushed aside. The Strangers: Chapter 1 (read our review HERE) reached theatres back in May of 2024, and The Strangers: Chapter 2 (read that review HERE) didn’t come along until September of 2025. Thankfully, the wait for The Strangers: Chapter 3 won’t be as long, as Lionsgate recently announced that the film will be reaching theatres on February 6, 2026. With that date swiftly approaching, a full trailer has dropped online and can be seen in the embed above. It looks like things are going to get pretty wild in this one, taking the story in a direction that I did not expect.

What’s the synopsis?

Madelaine Petsch (Riverdale) stars in this trilogy and is joined in the cast by the likes of Richard Brake (31), Froy Gutierrez (Cruel Summer), Rachel Shenton (All Creatures Great and Small), Gabriel Basso (Hillbilly Elegy), and Ema Horvath (The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power). The Strangers: Chapter 1 centered on Petsch’s character as she drives cross-country with her longtime boyfriend (Gutierrez) to begin a new life in the Pacific Northwest. When their car breaks down in Venus, Oregon, they’re forced to spend the night in a secluded Airbnb, where they are terrorized from dusk till dawn by three masked strangers. Lionsgate plans from there to expand the story in new and unexpected ways with its sequels. Here’s the synopsis for Chapter 3This final chapter delves into newer and darker territory, the franchise’s darkest descent yet — a ruthless thriller with scares that deliver. The Strangers: Chapter 3 closes the trilogy with a full-circle reckoning that expands the mythology of the iconic masked killers. Madelaine Petsch returns as Maya for the Final Girl’s long-awaited vengeance, delivering a final chapter that fans won’t want to miss. Tethered by a frightening conclusion, Maya and the Strangers are locked on an unavoidable, unforgiving collision course — a showdown that proves they’re far from strangers now.

Enhanced with additional photography

Harlin has said The Strangers: Chapter 1 “is close to the original movie in its set-up of a young couple in an isolated environment in a house and a home invasion happening for random reasons.” Then Chapter 2 and Chapter 3 “explore what happens to the victims of this kind of violence and who the perpetrators are of this kind of violence. Where are they coming from and why?“ Harlin has also said that viewer feedback was taken into account when they were making changes and enhancing the sequels in the additional photography process. The financial success of Chapter 1 allowed for Harlin and his cast and crew, who had completed principal photography on the trilogy in just 52 days, to go back for 8 days of additional photography on Chapter 2 and 15 days of additional photography on Chapter 3

The new film has been rated R for strong bloody violence and language.

Nearly two years have gone by since we heard that Dafne Keen of Logan and His Dark Materials and Sophie Nélisse of Yellowjackets and The Book Thief had signed on to star in Whistle, the latest horror film from The Hallow and The Nun director Corin Hardy. Filming took place in Ontario, Canada at the end of 2023 – and now, the movie is about ready to head out into the world. It was recently announced that Shudder and Independent Film Company had picked up the distribution rights, with their plan being to give the film a theatrical release on February 6, 2026. With that date exactly one month away, a full trailer has dropped online, and you can check it out in the embed above. A new poster has also been unveiled, and that can be seen at the bottom of this article.

Cast and Synopsis

Scripted by Owen Egerton from his own short story, Whistle has the following synopsis: A misfit group of unwitting high school students stumble upon a cursed object, an ancient Aztec Death Whistle. They discover that blowing the whistle and the terrifying sound it emits will summon their future deaths to hunt them down. As the body count rises, the friends investigate the origins of the deadly artifact in a desperate effort to stop the horrifying chain of events that they have set in motion.

Keen and Nélisse are joined in the cast by Sky Yang (Rebel Moon), Percy Hynes White (Wednesday), and Nick Frost (Shaun of the Dead). Producers on the film include David Gross and Jesse Shapira for No Trace Camping, and Macdara Kelleher for Wild Atlantic Pictures.

Statements

Hardy has previously said, “Whistle is made with the same heart-on-sleeve, disenfranchised-teen-spirit found in my favorite genre movies that I grew up watching. I was drawn to the mysterious mythology surrounding the ‘Death Whistle’ and how it presented me with the opportunity to create a variety of cinematic, imaginative and terrifying deaths. This film is built for the big screen experience, so I can’t wait for audiences to blow the Whistle with Independent Film Company and Shudder in cinemas!” Adam Koehler, the Director of Acquisitions and Productions who secured the deal with IFC and Shudder on behalf of the filmmakers, added,”Corin Hardy is a master of his craft and we’re overjoyed to be bringing this horrifying vision to audiences across the country. With Whistle, he’s created a vicious and bloody treat that will stand tall among the best and scariest horror films in recent box office history.

Whistle has been rated R for strong violent content, gore, drug content and some language.

Will you be watching Whistle? Take a look at the trailer, then let us know by leaving a comment below. I can’t say I’m a fan of Corin Hardy’s previous horror movies, but I have been interested in this one since it was first announced, so I will be watching it for sure.

Last October, we heard that Rachel McAdams was in talks to reteam with Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness director Sam Raimi on the 20th Century Studios horror thriller Send Help, which Raimi would be producing and directing. McAdams was quickly joined in the cast by Dylan O’Brien (The Maze Runner), Chris Pang (Interior Chinatown), and Dennis Haysbert (24). Filming began in early February, putting the film on track for a January 30th, 2026 theatrical release – and with that date now just a few weeks away, the film’s final trailer has been unveiled. You can check it out in the embed above.

Where Raimi goes, Bruce Campbell often follows, and this final trailer confirms there will be some Campbell presence in the film. He’s featured in a picture that gets dropped into the trash and in a painting that hangs on an office wall. Here’s hoping that these images won’t be his only appearances in the movie.

Creative Team

In 2007, it was rumored that Sam Raimi would be producing a fantasy film with a screenplay written by Freddy vs. Jason and Friday the 13th 2009 writers Damian Shannon and Mark Swift. That didn’t pan out, but a decade later Raimi considered directing a Bermuda Triangle project that once had Shannon and Swift working on the script. Again, that didn’t pan out, with Scott Derrickson and more recently Marc Webb picking up the project after Raimi dropped it. In 2019, it was announced that Raimi would be directing an untitled island horror thriller, working from a script by Shannon and Swift. Then the pandemic hit and Raimi went on to direct Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness… but now he has circled back to the island horror thriller, and A Quiet Place writers Scott Beck and Bryan Woods have done a rewrite of the script. They previously worked with Raimi on the Adam Driver dinosaur movie 65 and the anthology series 50 States of Fright. They also wrote and executive produced the Stephen King adaptation The Boogeyman for 20th Century Studios.

Raimi is producing Send Help alongside Zainab Azizi, the President of his company Raimi Productions.

Survival Horror Thriller

When Send Help was first announced, it was said to be like “Misery meets Cast Away” in tone. That’s still the description being given, as Deadline mentioned, “the film is described as a two-hander horror thriller set on an island, falling somewhere between Rob Reiner’s Stephen King adaptation Misery and Robert Zemeckis’ classic Castaway.” They report that the film is a survival horror thriller about two colleagues who become stranded on a deserted island, the only survivors of a plane crash. On the island, they must overcome past grievances and work together to survive, but ultimately, it’s a battle of wills and wits to make it out alive.

Film scooper Daniel Richtman recently revealed that Send Help has the following logline: Comedy-adventure horror about a female put-upon employee and her jerk boss. On a business flight together with their company, the plane crashes on an island and only those two make it. She has serious survival skills which means she’s his only hope. Richtman also shared character details: LINDA: Smartest person in the room, but no one takes her seriously. Actor can’t be overly comedic, has to be believable in serious office setting. Eyed Sandra BullockBRADLEY: LINDA’S misogynistic boss.

Raimi has described the film as being “really outrageous,” and I’m very much looking forward to this one, as “really outrageous” is exactly the sort of description I want to hear for a Sam Raimi horror thriller. Will you be watching Send Help? Take a look at the final trailer, then let us know by leaving a comment below.

Director Andy Muschietti and his producer / sister Barbara Muschietti, the filmmaking team behind Mama and the $1 billion grossing adaptations of Stephen King’s It, recently teamed up with Skydance to form a new horror label called Nocturna, and the first project to come out of the Nocturna partnership is the horror thriller They Will Kill You, which has New Line Cinema on board to co-finance and distribute. It was recently announced that the film will be reaching theatres on March 27, 2026 – and today, the hype starts building with the unveiling of a trailer! You can check it out in the embed above.

Cast and Synopsis

Zazie Beetz, whose credits include Joker, Bullet Train, and Deadpool 2, stars as a woman who answers a help wanted ad to be a housekeeper in a mysterious high-rise in New York City, not realizing she is entering a community that has seen a number of disappearances over the years and may be under the grip of a Satanic cult. Beetz is joined in the cast by Patricia Arquette (True Romance), Tom Felton of the Harry Potter franchise, Heather Graham of Boogie Nights and Suitable Flesh, and Myha’la of Industry and Bodies Bodies Bodies. Arquette’s character is one of the leads, the head of the co-op. Felton is a member of the cult.

They Will Kill You is described as being “a tonal mix of Ready or Not and The Raid.” Kirill Sokolov – who is said to be known for his dark sense of humor – will be directing the film from a screenplay he wrote with Alex Litvak. Sokolov previously directed the action comedy No Looking Back and the comedic thriller Why Don’t You Just Die!, both of which were Russian productions. Litvak is best known for writing the 2010 Predator sequel Predators with Michael Finch. He went on to co-write Paul W.S. Anderson’s version of The Three Musketeers and the TV movie Secret Society of Second Born Royals.

The Muschiettis are producing They Will Kill You alongside David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, Don Granger, and Dan Kagan. Nocturna Co-Heads of Film, Russell Ackerman and John Schoenfelder, serve as executive producers with Sokolov, Litvak, and Carl Hampe. Barbara Muschietti has described the film as a fun horror comedy action movie that will make viewers smile.

Competition

Given that this “blood-soaked, high-octane horror-action-comedy” has been compared to Ready or Not, it’s interesting to note that its March release date puts it in direct competition with the Ready or Not sequel, Ready or Not 2: Here I Come. Previously scheduled for an April 10th theatrical release, that movie moved up to March 27th a couple of weeks ago. So now, we’ll have to wait and see if Ready or Not 2 and They Will Kill You are going to remain on a box office collision course.

What did you think of the They Will Kill You trailer? Does this look like a movie you’d want to catch on the big screen? Let us know by leaving a comment below. The film has been given an R rating for strong bloody violence, gore, language and brief sexual content/nudity.

Two years have passed since we heard that Brad Anderson, a director whose credits include Session 9 and The Call, had signed on to direct a sci-fi action creature feature called Worldbreaker. The finished film is now scheduled to reach theatres on January 30th – and with that date right around the corner, a trailer has dropped online to give us a glimpse of the monster-filled world Anderson has envisioned. You can check it out in the embed above.

Synopsis and Cast

Worldbreaker is described as being “a pulse-pounding sci-fi action thriller about survival, sacrifice, and a young woman’s fight to step out of the shadows and into the war she was born to face.” Here’s the synopsis: After the Breakers rose—monsters that infect and twist their victims—men fell first, leaving women to lead the fight. Willa’s mother is one of the war’s fiercest warriors; her father, a battle-scarred veteran, hides with Willa on a remote island, training her to survive. Their fragile peace is shattered when a mysterious girl drifts ashore. Willa, longing for connection, shelters her in secret—until the truth emerges and danger follows. With Breakers closing in, Willa must rely on her father’s training and her own courage to survive. The screenplay was written by Joshua Rollins (Infinite Storm).

The film stars Milla Jovovich (Resident Evil), Luke Evans (Beauty and the Beast), Billie Boullet (The Worst Witch), and Mila Harris (Coyotes).

Worldbreaker

Martin Brennan, Jib Polhemus, Bradley Gallo, Michael Helfant, and Tracy Mercer produced Worldbreaker, with Katy Jackson and Joshua Rollins serving as co-producers.

Anderson and Jovovich are planning to reteam on the zombie film Twilight of the Dead, which is based on a treatment left behind by the great George A. Romero when he passed away in 2017. The last we heard, that project was still looking to secure the rest of its funding, but hopefully it will get the required funds very soon.

I’m on board to see any movie Brad Anderson makes and have been ever since I caught a screening of Session 9 at a 24 hour theatrical horror marathon back in 2001. In addition to Session 9 and The Call, Brad Anderson has directed Next Stop Wonderland, Happy Accidents, The Machinist, TransSiberian, Vanishing on 7th Street, Stonehearst Asylum, Beirut, Fractured, Blood, Masters of Horror: Sounds Like, Fear Itself: Spooked, and episodes of The Wire, Fringe, and Boardwalk Empire, among many other TV credits.

Five years ago, Sony’s Columbia Pictures announced that they were developing a reboot / reimagining of the 1997 “nature run amok” thriller Anaconda (watch it HERE), with the intention of “taking what was a simple and relatively cheap programmer with a B-movie concept and event-izing it in scope and budget.” Back in 2023, we heard that Tom Gormican would be writing and directing the film as his follow-up to the well-received action comedy The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent. Then Gormican’s Anaconda reboot, which takes a meta approach, made its way through production with a cast that includes Jack Black (School of Rock), Paul Rudd (Ant-Man), Thandiwe Newton (Westworld), Daniela Melchior (The Suicide Squad), Steve Zahn (Joy Ride), Selton Mello (I’m Still Here), and Ione Skye (Zodiac). It’s heading for a December 25th theatrical release – and with that date exactly one week away, the final trailer for the film has dropped online. You can check it out in the embed above.

Synopsis and Characters

The new Anaconda movie “involves a group of friends facing mid-life crises who are remaking their favorite movie from their youth. They head to the rainforest only to find themselves into a fight for their lives against natural disasters, giant snakes and violent criminals.“ Gormican wrote the screenplay with Kevin Ettin.

Black plays an “erstwhile director, a man stuck in his job as a wedding videographer,” with Rudd playing “an actor who did a stint on a cop show but sees his Hollywood dreams slipping further and further away.” Newton and Zahn play the pair’s childhood friends who join them on this adventure, with Mello playing a Brazilian animal wrangler and Skye playing the wife of Black’s character.

The original Anaconda movie, which starred Jennifer Lopez, Ice Cube, and Jon Voight, spawned a handful of sequels, including Anacondas: The Hunt for the Blood Orchid, Anaconda 3: Offspring, and Anacondas: Trail of Blood, plus the crossover Lake Placid vs. Anaconda. There was also a Chinese remake, which centered on a group of circus performers as they battle a giant snake.

First Reactions

Earlier today, the first reactions to the film also started popping up online, and you can get a sample of those at THIS LINK. JoBlo’s own Chris Bumbray wasn’t impressed by the film, feeling that the humor fell flat, but most of the first reactions are quite positive, calling Anaconda the funniest movie of the year.

Are you looking forward to the Anaconda reboot? Take a look at the final trailer, then let us know by leaving a comment below. As a fan of the original Anaconda and of the actors in this movie’s cast, I’m pretty hyped for this one.

The post Dracula trailer: Luc Besson’s take on the classic story is coming to North American theatres in February appeared first on JoBlo.

Back in July, the latest film from director Luc Besson reached theatres in France. The movie is Dracula, Besson’s “big-budget reimagining” of the classic story that is said to feature “some epic and spectacular set pieces.” On February 6th, Besson’s Dracula will finally be making its way into theatres across North America – and with that date just a month and a half away, a trailer has been unveiled! You can check it out in the embed above.

Also known as Dracula: A Love Tale, the film is, as that title gives away, a love story, following Dracula as he connects with a woman in Belle Epoque Paris, who resembles his beloved wife Elisabeta, who died in mid-15th century Transylvania. Per legend, it was Elisabeta’s suicide that led Romanian ruler Prince Vlad III (the real-life inspiration for Dracula) to forsake God and embrace life as a vampire. The action moves between time and the settings of Dracula’s castle in Romania’s Transylvanian Mountains and Belle Epoque Paris, which substitutes Stoker’s original UK settings of Whitby and London. The Paris-set scenes in the second part of the film unfold in the lead up to July 14, 1989, as the city gears up to celebrate the centenary of the French Revolution.

The title character is played by Caleb Landry Jones, who just worked with Besson on his most recent film, Dogman. The idea that Jones would make a great Dracula occurred to Besson while they were on the set of Dogman. Wanting to work with the actor again as quickly as possible, the filmmaker then started assembling his take on Dracula. He told Deadline he’s fascinated with Jones because “He’s crazily talented. It’s something I haven’t seen since Gary Oldman. On a human level, he’s a gem, kind, lovely… there’s no entourage, no agents and assistants in tow.” This is the most inspired he has been by an actor since Jean Reno, who he made six movies with.

Jones is joined in the cast by Zoë Bleu (Mother, May I Sleep With Danger?) as Elisabeta and her 1989 look-alike Mina, Matilda De Angelis (Citadel: Diana) as Mina’s best friend, and Christoph Waltz (Django Unchained) as a vampire-hunting priest who is on Dracula’s tail.

What did you think of the Dracula trailer? Let us know by leaving a comment below. The movie looks flashy and all, but I can’t say that the combo of Luc Besson, Caleb Landry Jones, and Dracula is one that stirs up much hype for me.

In 2018’s Halloween, Virginia Gardner crossed paths with the iconic masked slasher Michael Myers. In 2022’s Fall, she was stuck at the top of a 2000-foot-tall radio tower. Earlier this year, she reunited with her Fall co-star Grace Caroline Currey to face off with monstrous canines in A Breed Apart. Next up for Gardner is the aquatic horror thriller Killer Whale, which is set to receive a theatrical, digital, and VOD release on January 16 – and with that date exactly one month away, a trailer for the film has arrived online. You can check it out in the embed above.

Synopsis

Killer Whale was directed by Jo-Anne Brechin, whose previous credits include Designing Christmas with You, One Perfect Match, When Love Springs, and Paper Champions. Brechin also wrote the screenplay with Katharine E. McPhee, who previously co-wrote the Netflix release Love Is in the Air. In case you’re wondering: no, that Katharine McPhee is not the same person as the singer who was on American Idol.

The story Brechin and McPhee crafted for this film has the following synopsis: Hold your breath as you witness revenge rise from the deep. After a life-shattering tragedy, Trish tries to comfort her best friend, Maddie, by taking her on a spectacular adventure in a private lagoon halfway across the world. Their peaceful retreat soon becomes a terrifying fight to stay alive when the ocean’s most bloodthirsty predator seeks vengeance for a brutal life in captivity.

Cast

Gardner is joined in the cast by Mel Jarnson (Mortal Kombat), Mitchell Hope (Descendants), Ron Smyck (Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire), Scott James George (Thor: Love and Thunder), Isaac Crawley (Sacrifice), Aliandra Calabrese (Joe vs. Carole), and Mia Grunwald, who was in Designing Christmas with You and Love Is in the Air.

The combo of Virginia Gardner and a killer whale makes Killer Whale a movie that I can’t pass up, so I will be watching this one next month for sure. Does Killer Whale look interesting to you? Let us know by leaving a comment below – and while you’re scrolling down, take a look at the poster:

Sydney Sweeney (Anyone But YouMadame Web), Amanda Seyfried (Mean GirlsJennifer’s Body), Brandon Sklenar (It Ends With Us, 1923), and Michele Morrone (365 Days, Subservience) star in the “sexy” psychological thriller The Housemaid for Lionsgate and director Paul Feig, whose credits include Bridesmaids, Ghostbusters, and A Simple Favor. Lionsgate will be releasing the film on December 19th – and with that date just a few days away, the final trailer for the film has dropped online. You can watch it in the embed above.

Synopsis

Based on the novel by Freida McFadden, the film has the following synopsis: In The Housemaid, Millie (Sydney Sweeney) is a struggling young woman who is relieved to get a fresh start as a housemaid to Nina (Amanda Seyfried) and Andrew (Brandon Sklenar), an upscale, wealthy couple. She soon learns that the family’s secrets are far more dangerous than her own. Rebecca Sonnenshine wrote the screenplay adaptation. Don’t like that synopsis and want another one? Here you go: The Housemaid is a wildly entertaining thriller starring Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried, based on the best-selling book. From director Paul Feig, the film plunges audiences into a twisted world where perfection is an illusion, and nothing is as it seems. Trying to escape her past, Millie (Sweeney) accepts a job as a live-in housemaid for the wealthy Nina (Seyfried) and Andrew Winchester (Sklenar). But what begins as a dream job quickly unravels into something far more dangerous — a sexy, seductive game of secrets, scandal, and power. Behind the Winchesters’ closed doors lies a world of shocking twists that will leave you guessing until the very end.

Feig is producing the film with Todd Lieberman, Carly Kleinbart Elter, and Laura Fischer. Sweeney, Seyfried, and McFadden serve as executive producers with Alex Young. This one is coming our way from Lionsgate, Media Capital Technologies, Hidden Pictures, and Pretty Dangerous Pictures.

Franchise?

If The Housemaid does well at the box office, there’s franchise potential here, as McFadden has written multiple follow-ups to her novel: The Housemaid’s Secret, The Housemaid’s Wedding, and The Housemaid is Watching. I’m not familiar with the source material, but this movie sounds like a good time to me. I was already sold on The Housemaid a long time ago and will be watching it for sure.

Will you be watching The Housemaid this weekend? Take a look at the final trailer, then let us know by leaving a comment below.

Adam Scott has plenty of experience with the horrific and weird, having starred in the likes of Severance, Little Evil, Krampus, Piranha 3D, and Hellraiser: Bloodline. Earlier this year, we learned that he’s adding to his genre résumé with the supernatural horror film Hokum, which was filmed on location in Ireland. A few months ago, it was announced that NEON and Waypoint Entertainment’s Cweature Features have boarded the project, with NEON planning to give the film a theatrical release in the United States on May 1, 2026. We still have a while to wait for this one, but the marketing has begun with the release of a creepy teaser trailer, which can be viewed in the embed above.

What is Hokum about?

Hokum is coming our way from writer/director Damian McCarthy, whose horror film Oddity is said to have “caused a stir after premiering at SXSW, where it won the audience award in the Midnighter section.” That movie made its way out into the world last summer, telling the story of “a blind medium and curio shopkeeper who is still grieving the death of her twin sister a year prior when a wooden mannequin from her collection becomes crucial to her quest to uncover the truth about her sister’s murder.” The story McCarthy has crafted for Hokum will see Scott taking on the role of a horror novelist who visits a remote Irish inn to spread his parents’ ashes, unaware the place is rumored to be haunted by a witch. Here’s the synopsis: When reclusive novelist Ohm Bauman (Scott) retreats to a remote Irish inn to scatter his parents’ ashes, the staff’s tales of an ancient witch haunting the honeymoon suite take hold of his mind. Soon, disturbing visions and a shocking disappearance draw him into a nightmarish confrontation with the darkest corners of his past. Scott is joined in the cast by Peter Coonan (Bad Sisters) and David Wilmot (Bodkin).

Behind the scenes

Cweature Features are co-producers on the project, joining Image Nation and Spooky Pictures, as well as Team Thrives, who co-financed.

Hokum is being produced by Spooky Pictures’ Roy Lee and Steven Schneider, Image Nation’s Derek Dauchy, and Tailored Film’s Ruth Treacy, Julianne Forde, and Mairtín de Barra. Ben Ross, Dan Kagan, Rami Yasin, and Andrew Childs serve as executive producers. Cweature Features’ Ken Kao and Josh Rosenbaum are executive producers as well. The project is also supported by co-production funding from Screen Ireland/ Fís Éireann.

The post Ready or Not 2: Here I Come trailer: Samara Weaving and Kathryn Newton star in wild, blood-soaked sequel appeared first on JoBlo.

Six years ago, genre regular Samara Weaving starred in a very cool horror comedy called Ready or Not, which was directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, who went on to make the two most recent Scream sequels and the “Dracula’s daughter” movie Abigail. Last year, it was announced that a sequel is now moving forward – and while Escape Room director Adam Robitel was attached to take the helm of Ready or Not 2 (now known as Ready or Not 2: Here I Come) when it was first announced, Bettinelli-Olpin and Gillett have since stepped up to direct the sequel, which they have promised will be “an absolute banger.” Weaving is returning for the follow-up and is joined in the cast by Kathryn Newton (who worked with the directors on Abigail), Sarah Michelle Gellar (Buffy the Vampire Slayer), Elijah Wood (Lord of the Rings), Shawn Hatosy (The Faculty), Néstor Carbonell (Lost), Kevin Durand (also from Abigail), and legendary filmmaker David Cronenberg. Details on the characters they’ll be playing have not been revealed – but you can glean some information from the newly unveiled trailer! You can watch it in the embed above.

Ready or Not refresher

Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett are part of a filmmaking collective (and production company) called Radio Silence, which they formed with Justin Martinez and Chad Villella in 2011. Ready or Not was written by Guy Busick and R. Christopher Murphy. Weaving took on the role of Grace, a young woman who is invited on the night of her wedding by her new husband’s rich, eccentric family to participate in a time-honored tradition that turns into a lethal game with everyone fighting for their survival. Guy Busick and R. Christopher Murphy have written the script for the sequel.

Sequel synopsis

The film is aiming for a spring 2026 release. In addition to the actors mentioned above, the cast includes Kara Wooten (Revival), Juan Pablo Romero (Please, After You), Varun Saranga (Wynonna Earp), Masa Lizdek (Simulant), Nadeem Umar-Khitab (Wedding Season), Daniel Beirne (Ginny & Georgia), Antony Hall (Run the Burbs), and Olivia Cheng (Warrior).

Here’s the synopsis: Moments after surviving an all-out attack from the Le Domas family, Grace (Samara Weaving) discovers she’s reached the next level of the nightmarish game — and this time with her estranged sister Faith (Kathryn Newton) at her side. Grace has one chance to survive, keep her sister alive, and claim the High Seat of the Council that controls the world. Four rival families are hunting her for the throne, and whoever wins rules it all.

28 Days Later director Danny Boyle and screenwriter Alex Garland finally reunited to make a sequel to their zombie (or, if you prefer, infected people) movie classic. 28 Years Later, which is meant to launch a whole trilogy of 28 Days Later sequels, reached theatres at the end of June, and the second chapter in the trilogy, 28 Years Later Part II: The Bone Temple, is scheduled to be released on January 16, 2026. Garland also wrote the screenplays for the sequels that will come after 28 Years Later. Boyle directed the first one, then passed the helm over to Candyman and The Marvels director Nia DaCosta for the sequel. Last Wednesday, a poster dropped online along with the information that a trailer for 28 Years Later Part II: The Bone Temple would be coming along in a week – and now, exactly one week later, the trailer is here! In fact, we’ve got two of them. You can watch the international trailer in the embed above and the domestic trailer at the bottom of this article. It looks like Jack O’Connell from Sinners is swooping in to steal this one.

Boyle might circle back to direct 28 Years Later Part III, but that one doesn’t have a full greenlight yet, and probably won’t until we see how the second film does at the box office. 28 Years Later made $150 million at the global box office, but seemed to have trouble connecting with the audience. JoBlo’s own Chris Bumbray gave 28 Years Later a 7/10 review, and when we got a second opinion from Kier Gomes, he gave it a 6.5.

DaCosta recently said, “Making the 28 Years Later sequel was one of the best filmmaking experiences I’ve had. One of the issues I had with Candyman and Marvels was the lack of a really solid script, which is always gonna just wreak havoc on the whole process. But Alex Garland hands you a script, and you’re like, ‘This is amazing.’ You don’t really have to change it, although I did, I basically asked for more infected. [Laughs.] That was, like, my big contribution. I inherited an amazing cast, then I was given the leeway to cast the rest of the film. There were a couple of locations I inherited. I was given the leeway to develop all the other locations. Some of it overlapped, like the character Samson — Danny and I would collaborate a bit on the look, but at the end of the day, Danny shoots so different from the way I shoot.

Brotherhood of the Wolf and Silent Hill director Christophe Gans’ new Silent Hill movie Return to Silent Hill, which is said to be “totally independent from the two previous movies,” recently secured a U.S. distribution deal with entertainment studio Cineverse and is heading for a January 23, 2026 theatrical release. We’ve seen a teaser trailer for this one before, but now a full trailer has dropped online, and you can check it out in the embed above.

Gans directed the 2006 version of Silent Hill from a screenplay he wrote with Roger Avary and Nicolas Boukhrief, and directed this new film from a screenplay he wrote with Sandra Vo-Anh and Will Schneider. Based on the video game Silent Hill 2Return to Silent Hill follows James, a man broken after being separated from his one true love. When a mysterious letter calls him back to Silent Hill in search of her, he finds a once-recognizable town transformed by an unknown evil. As James descends deeper into the darkness, he encounters terrifying figures both familiar and new and begins to question his own sanity as he struggles to make sense of reality and hold on long enough to save his lost love.

The film stars Jeremy Irvine (Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again) and Hannah Emily Anderson (Jigsaw).

Return to Silent Hill was produced by Victor Hadida, Molly Hassell, and David Wulf. When the project was heading into production, Gans provided the following statement: “Return to Silent Hill is a mythological love story about someone so deeply in love, they’re willing to go to Hell to save someone. I’m delighted to have the wonderful talents of both Jeremy Irvine and Hannah Emily Anderson take us on this journey into a psychological horror world that I hope will both satisfy and surprise fans of Silent Hill.“ Hadida added: “Christophe and I have been working closely with our partners at KONAMI, as they update the video game, to also create a version of Silent Hill for the theatrical audiences of today. You will still find the iconic monsters – but there will also be new designs. We are confident that this new film and KONAMI’s updated game together will propel the Silent Hill franchise forward for years to come.

Are you looking forward to Return to Silent Hill? Take a look at the trailer, then let us know by leaving a comment below. I can’t say I’m hyped for this movie, but it does look like it could make for an entertaining, creepy viewing experience.

The post Charlie Polinger’s The Plague trailer takes a harsh look at a young boy’s torturous journey through adolescence appeared first on JoBlo.

]]>
Growing up, I learned rather quickly that kids can be cruel beyond my expectations. For most of my adolescence, I weighed 87 pounds due to Crohn’s disease. My classmates did not understand what I was going through – neither did I most of the time – but that did not keep them from going out of their way to bully, demean, and torture me, emotionally and physically. Today, Charlie Polinger is transforming those pent-up feelings I have into a trailer for his new film, The Plague. I advise you to proceed with caution, friends, as today’s preview could dredge up old memories you wish would remain beneath the surface.

Here’s an official synopsis for The Plague, courtesy of IFC (Independent Film Company):

At an all-boys water polo camp, a socially anxious twelve-year-old is pulled into a cruel tradition targeting an outcast with an illness they call “The Plague.” But as the lines between game and reality blur, he fears the joke might be hiding something real.

In today’s trailer for The Plague, Joel Edgerton is the coach of a boy’s water polo program. As he tries to comfort a young man who’s new to the class, we discover cruelty among the group aimed at a swimmer with a skin condition. Nicknamed “The Plague,” this young man takes the group’s ridicule in stride, but is there any truth to the rumors, jokes, and name-calling? Despite its brief runtime, the trailer is extraordinarily effective in creating a chilling mood, getting to the heart of the matter with precision. As the preview’s intensity ramps up, we learn that the boy with the skin condition could be hiding something far more sinister beneath the surface.

“From script to completion this film has always had a very strong vision,” said Edgerton about Polinger’s screenplay. “Charlie Polinger is a filmmaker with a great future ahead. I’m proud to have been part of his first film along with these incredible producers and companies.”

What do you think about Charlie Polinger’s trailer for The Plague? Does it elicit any harsh memories for you? Let us know in the comments section below.

We’re just hours away from Halloween and the folks at Paramount Pictures are definitely feeling the holiday cheer, as they just released the first trailer for the slasher sequel Scream 7! The film is set to reach theatres on February 27, 2026 and the first trailer is more substantial than I expected it to be, giving a good idea of what the story is, showing off what is probably the opening kill scene, and showcasing some cool Ghostface action and suspense sequences. You can check it out in the embed above.

Spyglass Media and Paramount once intended to make a Scream 7 that would have starred Scream (2022) and Scream VI leads Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega, with Freaky and Happy Death Day director Christopher Landon at the helm. But then Ortega allegedly asked for a substantial pay raise – and as we saw when Neve Campbell dropped out of Scream VI due to a pay dispute, these pay issues don’t tend to work out. Then Barrera was fired from the project after comments she made about the Israel-Hamas war didn’t go over well with executives at Spyglass. Landon dropped out the of the project soon after. So Scream 7 has been re-developed, Campbell has signed on to return as franchise heroine Sidney Prescott, back in the lead role, while Kevin Williamson, who wrote the screenplay for the original Scream, directs the film from a screenplay by 2022’s Scream and Scream VI writer Guy Busick, who crafted the story with his co-writer on the fifth and sixth films, James Vanderbilt. (Vanderbilt is also a producer on the most recent sequels.)

Neve Campbell is joined in the cast by Isabel May of the Yellowstone prequel 1883, who has signed on to play Sidney’s daughter; Mckenna Grace of the Ghostbusters franchise, Grace’s Ghostbusters co-star Celeste O’Connor, Gen V‘s Asa Germann, The Fabelmans‘ Sam Rechner, Pitch Perfect‘s Anna Camp, Riverdale‘s Mark Consuelos, fellow franchise star Courteney Cox, who reprises the role of reporter / author Gale Weathers, Joel McHale (Community) as Sidney’s husband Mark Evans, and Ethan Embray (The Devil’s Candy). Although two of the “core four” characters established in the previous two movies are no longer around, Mason Gooding and Jasmin Savoy Brown are back as Chad Meeks-Martin and Mindy Meeks-Martin.

Also in the cast are Matthew Lillard and Scott Foley, who played Ghostface killers in the original Scream and Scream 3, respectively, and did not appear to make it out of those movies alive. David Arquette is back as the dearly departed Dewey, who exited the world of the living in the fifth movie.

Here’s the film’s official synopsis: When a new Ghostface killer emerges in the quiet town where Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell) has built a new life, her darkest fears are realized as her daughter (Isabel May) becomes the next target. Determined to protect her family, Sidney must face the horrors of her past to put an end to the bloodshed once and for all.

Director Guillermo del Toro has finally had the chance to make one of his dream projects, an adaptation of Mary Shelley’s classic tale Frankenstein that is set up at the Netflix streaming service. The movie is set to reach select theatres on October 17th, with its Netflix premiere to follow on November 7th. Yesterday, a poster was unveiled and came with the promise that a trailer would be dropping online today – and now that trailer is here! You can watch it in the embed above.

JoBlo’s own Chris Bumbray already had the chance to watch del Toro’s Frankenstein, and you can read his 7/10 review at THIS LINK. The film shows us what happens when, driven by arrogance, his hunger to unlock the secret of eternal life, and his own growing madness, Victor Frankenstein creates life without ever considering what would happen to the wretched creature who, by design, is cursed to live forever. Here’s the official logline: Oscar-winning director Guillermo del Toro adapts Mary Shelley’s classic tale of Victor Frankenstein, a brilliant but egotistical scientist who brings a creature to life in a monstrous experiment that ultimately leads to the undoing of both the creator and his tragic creation.

Oscar Isaac (Moon Knight) stars alongside Mia Goth (Pearl), Jacob Elordi (Saltburn), Christoph Waltz (Inglourious Basterds), and Charles Dance (Game of Thrones), with Ralph Ineson (The Witch) showing up for a pivotal cameo. At one point, Andrew Garfield was in the cast, but he had to drop out and was replaced by Elordi… and the role Garfield passed over to Elordi was the Monster.

Del Toro has been talking about making a new version of Frankenstein for more than a decade. Years ago, he had the project set up at Universal, with Doug Jones (The Shape of Water) on board to play Frankenstein’s Monster. The movie got far enough into pre-production that Jones even saw a Monster bust inspired by Bernie Wrightson’s artwork in an illustrated adaptation of Shelley’s novel, which Wrightson spent seven years working on. But then the project fell apart. Now it’s finally happening at the Netflix streaming service, which previously teamed with del Toro on Pinocchio and the anthology series Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities.

While del Toro has said that this is “an incredibly emotional movie” that he doesn’t consider to be a horror film, the Motion Picture Association ratings board has revealed that this Frankenstein does has some bloody violence in it. In fact, they’ve given the film an R rating for bloody violence and grisly images.

Are you looking forward to Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein? Take a look at the trailer, then let us know by leaving a comment below!

Inviting someone into your home, especially someone who will spend time with your kids, is a nasty business. You need to be sure of so many things. References will only get you so far, and who’s to say skeletons don’t lurk in closets deeper than you can reach? In Hulu’s The Hand That Rocks the Cradle trailer, Mary Elizabeth Winstead (10 Cloverfield Lane, Birds of Prey, Kate) and Maika Monroe (Longlegs, It Follows, Independence Day: Resurgence) confront differing approaches to raising a child, maintaining a happy home, and keeping the fires burning in the bedroom. The psychological thriller from director Michelle Garza Cervera (Huesera: The Bone Woman, La Rabia de Clara) will premiere on October 22, exclusively on Hulu.

Here’s the official synopsis for The Hand That Rocks the Cradle, courtesy of Hulu:

Mary Elizabeth Winstead stars as Caitlin Morales, an upscale suburban mom who brings a new nanny, Polly Murphy (Maika Monroe), into her home, only to discover she is not the person she claims to be. “The Hand That Rocks the Cradle” also stars Raúl Castillo, Martin Starr, Mileiah Vega, Riki Lindhome, and Shannon Cochran, and is written by Micah Bloomberg based on a screenplay by Amanda Silver. The producers are Michael Schaefer, Mike LaRocca, and Ted Field, and the executive producers are Michael Napoliello, Maria Frisk, and Seth William Meier.

The original version of The Hand That Rocks the Cradle was released in 1992, with Annabella Sciorra, Rebecca De Mornay, and Matt McCoy leading the cast. Directed by Curtis Hanson and written by Amanda Silver, the psychological thriller terrified audiences and led to a rash of paranoia among live-in caretakers and homeowners. It became a cautionary tale for would-be nannies and families hoping to find someone to manage day-to-day affairs. Thankfully, vetting for such positions is more thorough nowadays, thanks mainly to internet research, extensive background checks, and general snooping.

What do you think about Hulu’s trailer for The Hand That Rocks the Cradle? Are you a fan of the original film? Let us know in the comments section below.

28 Years Later released several months ago and had quite a divisive reaction to it. It didn’t light the box office on fire, but it did decent reviews (you can check out Bumbray’s review HERE). But that lack of decent box office has put the proposed trilogy in a bit of stasis. Fortunately for fans of the film, Nia DaCosta’s follow-up 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple had already commenced filming and is expected early next year. As someone who hated the first entry, I’ve still got an open mind about this sequel, and am hoping they’re able to correct some of the mistakes of Boyle’s film. But with the Jimmies taking the forefront (easily the worst part of the film) it doesn’t inspire much hope.

Now, the first trailer has dropped, and like the first trailer for the last movie, it’s pretty great and revolves around a spoken word track, in this case Berzilla Wallin’s “Conversation With Death”. And yes, everyone’s favorite infected from the last film, the big-donged Alpha, is back. Positive test screenings happened last month and set the film up as a Ralph Fiennes v Jack O’Connell showdown and the trailer seems to suggest as much, with the Jimmies appearing in Dr. Kelson’s Bone Temple. Take a look at some official images below:

The Bone Temple

The Bone Temple

The Bone Temple

For those that haven’t heard what the sequel is about: “Picking up shortly after the events of 28 Years Later, the sequel follows Spike (Williams) as he is forced to join Sir Jimmy Crystal’s (O’Connell) violent cult, which is on a collision course with Dr. Kelson (Fiennes) and his Alpha virus-carrier Samson (Lewis-Parry).”

The film stars Ralph Fiennes, Jack O’Connell, Alphie Williams, Emma Laird, and Erin Kellyman, with even Cillian Murphy finally set to reprise his role from the original film. Though, I wouldn’t get your hopes up about Murphy having a significant role as it definitely sounds like more of a cameo. Noticeably absent from the cast is Aaron Taylor Johnson, who took up a major role in the first 28 Years Later film. Whether he comes back for the third (if we even get one at all) is a mystery at this point.

28 Years Later: The Bone Temple will arrive to theaters on January 16th, 2025.

Nearly twenty years after director Christophe Gans first dragged us into the nightmare of Silent Hill, he’s back to unleash another chilling chapter inspired by the iconic video game series. A spooky new teaser trailer for Return to Silent Hill has been released, which you can check out above!

The film stars Jeremy Irvine (War Horse) as James, a man broken after being separated from his one true love. Hannah Emily Anderson also stars as Mary.

Gans directed the new film and wrote the script alongside Sandra Vo-Anh and William Josef Schneider. The production partnered with Cineverse earlier this year, with the company set to release the film in theaters on January 23, 2026. “I am delighted to partner with Cineverse, which has shown a genuine understanding of fanship,” Gans said in a statement. “Return to Silent Hill is an adaptation created out of deep respect for a true masterpiece of a game, Konami’s iconic ‘Silent Hill 2.’ I hope fans will enjoy and be fulfilled with the experience this new film has to offer.

Cineverse Executive Director of Acquisitions Brandon Hill added, “Silent Hill is one of the best video game franchises period and Christophe Gans did a phenomenal job capturing the atmosphere of the games once again with Return to Silent Hill.

The original Silent Hill movie, released in 2006, remains a genuinely unsettling experience. There’s some fantastic imagery and haunting scenes, but Gans didn’t return for the 2012 sequel, Silent Hill: Revelation, and it shows, as the follow-up falls far short of the original’s chilling impact.

What did you think of the teaser trailer for Return to Silent Hill? Will it be able to recapture the magic of the original film and, more importantly, live up to the legacy of the games?

The post Trailer: Michael Chernus is a Devil in Disguise for Peacock’s John Wayne Gacy series appeared first on JoBlo.

At the time of John Wayne Gacy’s arrest, he was the most prolific serial killer the country had ever seen. And more than 30 years after his execution, he remains one of the most infamous, so it’s no wonder he’s been the subject of so much media. Now, Peacock is returning to the “Killer Klown” with Devil in Disguise: John Wayne Gacy (having explored the topic and used a variation of the title in 2021), the trailer of which is now available.

The trailer for Devil in Disguise: John Wayne Gacy opens with Gacy meeting one of his victims, set to Orville Peck’s eerie “Dreamless Night”. From there, we get an idea of Gacy’s perception as a model citizen, the scope of his crimes (he’d be found guilty of 33 murders) and how citizens and families were treated amid the investigation.

Here is the official plot of the series: “From 1972 to 1978, 33 young men were kidnapped, murdered, and buried in a crawl space beneath their killer’s house. And no one was the wiser. Not for all those years. Why? He was charming and funny. Had a good All-American job. Was a community leader. He even volunteered to entertain sick kids… while dressed as a clown. Devil In Disguise: John Wayne Gacy peels back the twisted layers of Gacy’s life while weaving in heartrending stories of his victims; exploring the grief, guilt, and trauma of their families and friends; and exposing the systemic failures, missed opportunities, and societal prejudices that fueled his reign of terror.” All eight episodes will debut on October 16th.

Of course, Devil in Disguise isn’t nearly the first time that John Wayne Gacy was the subject of a film or series. They actually go back to even before Gacy’s 1994 execution, with the great Brian Dennehy playing him in a TV movie. Gacy went the DTV route courtesy of Pee-Wee’s Big Adventure’s Mark Holton in 2003, which became a video rental staple for those interested in true crime before it blew up years later. And while the bulk of these and more have been underwhelming (true crime tends to work better either as a docuseries, podcast or book), Peacock may have something here if they found a way to uniquely explore the horrifying story.

Devil in Disguise: John Wayne Gacy was first announced last year, with Severance’s Michael Chernus in the title role.

What do you think of the trailer for Devil in Disguise: John Wayne Gacy? Do you think the series can stand out from the other Gacy content?

The Toxic Avengers goes old school with new retro trailer https://www.joblo.com/the-toxic-avenger-throwback-trailer/ https://www.joblo.com/the-toxic-avenger-throwback-trailer/#respond Fri, 22 Aug 2025 17:58:55 +0000 https://www.joblo.com/?p=857601 The remake of The Toxic Avenger is going to be a huge hit with certain horror fans, and now they're being treated to a retro trailer.

The post The Toxic Avengers goes old school with new retro trailer appeared first on JoBlo.

Do you remember the horror movie trailers from the 1980s? They’re grimy, the sound is lousy and they look like they have peanut butter smudged on them. Well, The Toxic Avenger is embracing that in full force, releasing a new trailer that perfectly mimics that style.

As you can see in the retro-style trailer, those behind it have nailed every aspect of what made the actual trailers on film so damn good and, now, nostalgic. The best part of The Toxic Avenger trailer might be the voiceover, which goes: “Meet Winston Gooze. He’s a 90-pound weakling. Everyone hated Winston. They teased him. They taunted him. They tormented him until he had a horrifying accident and fell into a vat of nuclear waste, transforming Winston into a hideously deformed creature of superhuman strength. Winston became…The Toxic Avenger!” From there, it’s all of the blood and sheer fun that we’ve been waiting years to see.

Unfortunately, we know that this trailer is just a marketing tool for The Toxic Avenger and the movie doesn’t really look like that – although it’s a hell of a lot better than shilling canned water. But if we could all rally behind it enough, maybe we can get an entire cut of The Toxic Avenger that has been given a makeover in this style!

While most of us will be waiting just a little bit longer to see The Toxic Avenger (it comes out on August 29th, just one week after this trailer dropped), a lot of people got their first look back in 2023 when it opened Fantastic Fest. As for our own take, you can read our own Michael Conway’s 8/10 review here.

If that’s not enough to generate even more hype, how about the fact that Troma Entertainment founder Lloyd Kaufman said it surpasses the cult original. “This is better than the original. The audiences that I’ve sat with, including at festivals but also with focus groups, always in the 90s. Whether the focus groups were normal people or Troma fans, they both were up in the 90s in terms of being appreciated.”

The Monster of Florence terrorizes Italy — and Netflix — in full trailer https://www.joblo.com/the-monster-of-florence-trailer/ https://www.joblo.com/the-monster-of-florence-trailer/#respond Fri, 22 Aug 2025 16:19:57 +0000 https://www.joblo.com/?p=857581 The trailer for The Monster of Florence, about a series of unsolved murders from the '60s and '80s, has arrived ahead of its October release.

From 1968 to 1985, an individual known only as the Monster of Florence terrorized Italy, becoming the country’s first serial killer. To this day, nobody has ever formally been named as the murderer – which is just one of the hooks that Netflix is taking for their upcoming series, the trailer of which has arrived.

The trailer for The Monster of Florence sets an eerie tone, setting up the level of horror that the killer held over Tuscany’s capital (even though none of the murders occurred in Florence itself), with The Moody Blues’ “Knights in White Satin” proving the perfect song to accompany. Appropriately enough, there are definitely vibes of David Fincher’s Zodiac. Why is that fitting? Because many people believe that the Monster of Florence and the Zodiac Killer were connected…As with the Zodiac Killer, the Monster of Florence also targeted couples.

Here is the official plot of The Monster of Florence, as per Netflix: “Eight double murders. Seventeen years of terror. Always the same weapon. A .22 caliber Beretta. One of the longest and most complex Italian investigations into the first and most brutal serial killer in the country’s history: The Monster of Florence. This story is based on ongoing legal proceedings and investigations. In a story where there have been many possible monsters, over time and investigations, our story focuses on them, the possible monsters, from their point of view. Because the monster, in the end, could be anyone.”

The series is directed by Stefano Sollima (Sicario: Day of the Soldado, Adagio), who spoke of the project by saying, “Horror, to be truly told, must be faced, not avoided. And a story, to come through with clarity, without embracing a thesis, must begin at the very beginning. To recount it with honesty, respect and rigor must still carry meaning. Not to solve, not to explain, but simply to remember. A way to remain close to those who were left there, forever in the night.”

The Monster of Florence – a version of which once had Antonio Banderas tied to it – will have its premiere at this year’s Venice Film Festival, which kicks off next week, before hitting Netflix on October 22nd.

There is no doubt that the original 1974 Texas Chain Saw Massacre haunted people’s minds ever since its premiere. Along with The Exorcist, it’s regarded as one of the most disturbing horror movies in history. It’s so impactful that people have been under the impression that the film is more gory than it actually is. Tobe Hooper’s direction makes you feel the southern heat and famous fans of the film illustrate just how much it changed cinema in the new documentary Chain Reactions. Dark Sky Films has just passed along the trailer, which features interviews from Patton Oswalt, Takashi Miike, Alexandra Heller- Nicholas, Stephen King, and Karyn Kusama.

The official synopsis reads,
“Fifty years after Tobe Hooper’s THE TEXAS CHAIN SAW MASSACRE shocked the world and forever changed the face of global cinema and popular culture, CHAIN REACTIONS charts the film’s profound impact and lasting influence on five great artists – Patton Oswalt, Takashi Miike, Alexandra Heller- Nicholas, Stephen King, and Karyn Kusama – through early memories, sensory experiences, and childhood trauma. By crafting a dynamic dialogue between contemporary footage and never-before-seen outtakes and delving into personal impressions triggered by distinct audiovisual formats (16mm, 35mm, VHS, digital), CHAIN REACTIONS goes to the heart of how a scruffy, no-budget independent film wormed its way into our collective nightmares and permanently altered the zeitgeist.”

Chain Reactions was a winner of the Venice Classics Award for Best Documentary on Cinema. The doc is also an official selection of the Telluride Film Festival, Sitges, BFI London Film Festival, San Francisco International Film Festival, Fantastic Fest, Beyondfest and Karlovy Vary Film Festival.

Alexandre O. Philippe, whose credits include 78/52 (Sundance 2017), Memory: The Origins of Alien (Sundance 2019), Leap of Faith: William Friedkin on The Exorcist (Venice 2019, Sundance 2020), and Lynch/Oz (Tribeca 2022), writes and directs this documentary. Kerry Deignan Roy produces along with co-producer Robert Muratore. Additionally, Kim Henkel, Ian Henkel, Pat Cassidy, Hamza Ali, Badie Ali and Greg Newman are all on board as executive producers. And Robert Muratore also serves as the director of photography.

Philippe is currently working on multiple feature documentaries on cinema. His latest, Kim Novak’s Vertigo, will premiere at the Venice Film Festival on September 1.

Everyone is familiar with the fairytale scenario of falling in love with someone from across a crowded room. It’s in the eyes, they say. You feel that spark. It pulls you into each other’s orbit, with the rest of the story waiting to be written by fate. However, butterflies can only survive inside a stomach for so long; after some time, they’ll die, along with that initial feeling of wonder. In Osgood PerkinsKeeper teaser trailer, love blossoms and withers as time tarnishes what began as something beautiful.

Keeper falls under Osgood Perkins and Chris Ferguson’s new production studio, Phobos. Previously, NEON hosted a looping teaser video for Keeper on the studio’s YouTube channel. The video featured a young, unblinking individual repeatedly drawing on a notepad, the sound of their pen against paper playing like ASMR for sickos. Once in a while, the scene changes to footage of a screaming woman, her face covered in blood as she chokes on the oxygenated life juice. Later, another image of a cabin appears on screen, accompanied by another blood-curdling scream.

Osgood Perkins directs Keeper from a script by Nick Lepard (Dangerous Animals), with Tatiana Maslany (The MonkeyShe-Hulk: Attorney at Law) and Rossif Sutherland (Possessor) in starring roles. “Keeper follows a couple as they escape for a romantic anniversary weekend at a secluded cabin. When Malcolm (Rossif Sutherland) suddenly returns to the city, Liz (Maslany) finds herself isolated and in the presence of an unspeakable evil that unveils the cabin’s horrifying secrets.”

Keeper stars Tatiana Maslany, Rossif Sutherland, Birkett Turton, Erin Boyes, Tess Degenstein, Claire Friesen, Christin Park, and Logan Pierce.

In addition to today’s Keeper teaser trailer, NEON’s official press release included a poem:

You can’t holler down our rain barrel,

You can’t climb our apple tree,

I don’t wanna play in your yard,

If you can’t be good to me.

What do you make of today’s teaser trailer for Keeper? After Longlegs and The Monkey, are you willing to go along with whatever Perkins creates? I enjoyed the hell out of Longlegs, and admit I’m intrigued by Keeper. Osgood Perkins feels like a horror filmmaker worth keeping tabs on, like Zack Cregger, Brandon Cronenberg, and Danny and Michael Philippou.

Let us know what you think about the Keeper teaser trailer in the comments section below.

Airbnb seems to be the new go-to scary location for Gen Z horror films. After all, a double-booked Airbnb was used to great effect in Zach Cregger’s Barbarian, and now it’s the setting of what’s being called an “erotic horror thriller” called Bone Lake, which is directed by Mercedes Bryce Morgan (Shudder’s Spoonful of Sugar). Bleeker Street, which is putting the movie out theatrically, just debuted a red-band teaser trailer that sets the stage nicely for what should be a fun horror flick with loads of skin once it hits theatres on October 24th.

Bone Lake made its debut at Fantastic Fest last fall and was extremely well-reviewed. It currently sports a 95% on Rotten Tomatoes

Here’s the synopsis:

A couple’s romantic vacation at a secluded lakeside estate is upended when they are forced to share the mansion with a mysterious and attractive couple. In this darkly hilarious and seductive horror story, a dream getaway spirals into a nightmarish maze of sex, lies, and manipulation, bringing terrifying secrets to light and triggering a bloody battle for survival.

The film stars Maddie Hasson, who was great in James Wan’s Malignant and on the too-short-lived YouTube Red series Impulse, alongside Marco Pigossi, Alex Roe, Andra Nechita, Eliane Reis and Clayton Spencer.

Bleeker Street has Bone Lake set for an October 24th release, which puts it a week after the much-anticipated The Black Phone 2. That same weekend, we also see the release of Mortal Kombat 2, while Yorgos Lanthimos’s remake of Save the Green Planet, Bugonia, also goes into limited release. Bleeker also has one of the more anticipated films of the year coming, with them releasing Spinal Tap 2: The End Continues on September 12th

Will you be checking out Bone Lake? Let us know in the comments!

In the early ’90s, I rode my bike to Van Lee’s Video, a local video rental store. In the back of the shop, a darkened room housed the horror section and two arcade cabinets: Street Fighter II: Championship Edition and Mortal Kombat II. It’s where all the cool kids would hang out. Surrounded by familiar faces like Freddy Krueger and Jason Voorhees, movies like Waxwork, Evil Toons, Phantasm, and others lined the slotted, mirrored walls. Among the collection was Kevin Tenney’s Witchboard, the type of horror movie you watched when your parents weren’t around. Today, The Avenue and Atlas Distribution Company are conjuring up a trailer and poster for Chuck Russell’s re-imagined Witchboard, starring Madison Iseman (Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, Annabelle Comes Home) and Aaron Dominguez (Only Murders in the Building, Breathe, The Inspection).

Here’s the official synopsis for Witchboard:

“From legendary director Chuck Russell (A Nightmare on Elm Street 3, The Mask), Witchboard resurrects the ’80’s horror classic with a chilling new vision. In present-day New Orleans, a cursed artifact unleashes a vengeful witch, drawing a young couple into a deadly spiral of possession, temptation, and occult terror.”

Chuck Russell directs Witchboard from a script he co-wrote with Greg McKay, inspired by the screenplay “Witchboard” by Kevin Tenney. In addition to Madison Iseman and Aaron Dominguez, Mel Jarnson (Mortal Kombat, Blacklight), Charlie Tahan (Frankenweenie, Ozark), Antonia Desplat (Shantaram, The French Dispatch), and Jamie Campbell Bower (Stranger Things, The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones) complete the primary cast.

Dark magic is disturbed in the scary and sensual Witchboard trailer when an enchanted pendulum board awakens the witch who carved it. After unleashing evil, one nightmarish scenario after the next haunts the steps of those who brought the board back to life. Can they put the witch back in the bottle (so to speak) before they all end up dead? I doubt it. Also, how do you live your life after something like that? The therapy bills alone would be astronomical.

You can check out our Witchboard review here!

What do you think about the Witchboard trailer? Are you a fan of the original film? Would you mess with an ancient pendulum board? Let us know in the comments section below.

Witchboard comes to theaters on August 15, 2025.

A few months ago, at the Sundance Film Festival, I was lucky enough to attend the world premiere of Michael Shanks’s Together, a body horror flick that stars real-life couple Dave Franco and Alison Brie. In it, they play a co-dependent couple who find themselves physically bonding in horrifying ways too good to spoil in a story like this. You can read our review HERE but the film caused enough of a sensation that Neon snapped it up and are releasing it as their big summer horror flick. Now, to celebrate the movie’s upcoming release, they’ve put out a new teaser that opens with a JoBlo quote! Check it out above.

Of course, the release of Together has been somewhat marred by controversy, with a writer-director named Patrick Henry Phelan stating it was plagiarized from his independent film, Better Half. The writer-director of Together, Michael Shanks, vehemently denied these claims, posting a lengthy statement on social media:

“Have you ever been in a relationship so long that the line between you and the other person starts to blur? I’ve been with my partner for over 16 years — almost half my life. That entanglement of identity, love, and co-dependence is what inspired TOGETHER. It’s not just a script; it’s a reflection of something deeply personal. Tim’s story, his love for Millie, his relationship to his family, his relationship to unfulfilled ambitions as a musician, is completely rooted in my own personal life. I lost my father at a young age in the same way our main character does, his trauma is rooted in my own. To have this called into question is not only deeply upsetting but entirely untrue.”

“I wish I didn’t have to clarify this, but I completed the first draft in 2019 and registered it to the Writer’s Guild of America that same year. In October 2020, I received development funding from Screen Australia to further the project. In 2022, my agent at WME introduced me to Dave Franco. From the very first meeting, we bonded over our love of horror, and I pitched him TOGETHER — a script I had been trying to get into production for years, with no luck. Soon after, he and Alison Brie came onboard to act in and produce the film. To now be accused of stealing this story — one so deeply based on my own lived experience, one I’ve developed over the course of several years — is devastating and has taken a heavy toll.”

Together, which should be able to overcome this drummed up controversy, plays at the Fantasia Film Festival shortly before it’s theatrical debut!

Saban Films and Roadside Attractions have just released the trailer for the chilling new found footage horror film Strange Harvest. The movie comes from writer-director Stuart Ortiz, who is known for Grave Encounters. Strange Harvest is a hauntingly grounded thriller that introduces “Mr. Shiny,” a serial killer at the center of a terrifying and otherworldly mystery. The movie uses various methods of voyeuristic point-of-views in a twist on the usual found footage formula as we see the action through webcams, news outlets and body cams.

The official synopsis for Strange Harvest from Saban and Roadside Attractions reads,
“Detectives are thrust into a chilling hunt for “Mr. Shiny”—a sadistic serial killer from the past whose return marks the beginning of a new wave of grotesque, otherworldly crimes tied to a dark cosmic force.” The movie stars Peter Zizzo, Terri Apple, Andy Lauer, Matthew Peschio, Janna Cardia, Travis Wolfe Sr. and Christina Helene Braa.

The producers of the film include writer/director Stuart Ortiz, along with Bruce Guido, Alex Yesilcimen and Michael Karlin.

The film will be released this summer on August 8, although it was already screened at last year’s Fantastic Fest 2024. At the time, the film sported the extended title, STRANGE HARVEST: OCCULT MURDER IN THE INLAND EMPIRE. The line-up of the festival also included big titles, like the Halle Berry film Never Let Go, and Joseph Kahn’s Ick.

Ick also recently premiered its trailer and the film aims to “evoke the timeless creature features of the 1980s with an ambitious arsenal of scares and comedy.” Brandon Routh (Superman Returns) and Mena Suvari (American Beauty) star, with Routh taking on the role of Hank, a high school science teacher who still pines for his childhood sweetheart, played by Suvari. While discovering he may have a teenage daughter, Hank must grapple with a terrifying alien anomaly (the titular “Ick”) invading their small town. The teenager who might be Hank’s daughter is being played by Malina Weissman of Lemony Snicket’s Series of Unfortunate Events.

The synopsis read, “For almost two decades, a viscous vine-like growth known colloquially as ‘The Ick’ has benignly crept into every nook and cranny of American life while the residents of small town Eastbrook remain blasé about its existence. The exceptions are former high school football star-turned-hapless science teacher Hank (Routh) and his sardonically perceptive student Grace (Weissman) who are thrown together by Grace’s mom Staci’s (Suvari) closely-guarded secret and a mutual suspicion that the Ick is about to unleash some monstrous mayhem. A wild ride driven by a power punk spirit, ICK is a dizzyingly fun and hilariously grotesque homage to throwback PG horror flicks, as well as an ode to Millennial nostalgia manifested in soundtrack needle drops by All American Rejects, Paramore, and Blink 182.”

Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 gets threatening new poster https://www.joblo.com/five-nights-at-freddys-2-poster/ https://www.joblo.com/five-nights-at-freddys-2-poster/#respond Mon, 02 Jun 2025 12:44:56 +0000 https://www.joblo.com/?p=843765 Five Nights at Freddy's 2 has received a new poster this week, showing off the communication device the FazTalker.

Are you there? If you thought surviving Five Nights at Freddy’s was tough, consider what will happen with Five Nights at Freddy’s 2. I’m not too sure how the math works out on that, but based on the new poster for the sequel, it doesn’t seem like something we want to mess around with.

Universal has been ramping up promotion for Five Nights at Freddy’s via posters, teasers, and more, well ahead of its December 5th release, which is a curious choice considering the first one hit theaters just before Halloween. But there’s really zero chance that that calendar decision will do much harm, as the original did so well at the box office that most of that fanbase will no doubt be back. For reference, the first Five Nights at Freddy’s had a worldwide haul of just under $300 million, with close to $140 million of that coming via the domestic market. That put it in Fast X and Wonka territory.

In a previous interview, star Josh Hutcherson promised that Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 will amp up both the fun factor for fans and the stakes for the characters, saying the movie is “much bigger; the stakes are higher. There’s more animatronics being brought in, different animatronics being brought in, and the world just opens up in a big way. We’re finding the balance right now of building this world and expanding it in a really cool way but also making sure the characters stay really grounded…I think the fans are gonna flip for it. It’s gonna be a lot of fun with the source. It’s gonna be scarier, too, actually.”

While Universal has been putting out different promotional materials, one thing that has had a lid on it is the plot, which has not yet been officially revealed. However, some leaked photos from the set did point to different events happening in the movie, including something called Fazfest, which looks to be a community gathering that could open up an interesting sequence of chaos.

Will you check out Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 when it hits theaters? Were you a fan of the first one? Let us know below!
