2025 ended up being a pretty decent year for movies, with some true standouts like Marty Supreme, Weapons, and Hamnet. But with the sun setting on 2025, it’s time to look forward to the films being released in 2026. And boy are there a lot of sequels and adaptations. I suppose that’s just the nature of modern day cinema and that’s not to say that there won’t be some original films that really blow us away this year. But those tend to be a bit more under the radar until closer to release. Even still, I’m pretty excited for many releases this year and think that we should be in store for some great additions to already established franchises. So let’s take a look at some of the upcoming movies in 2026.

And don’t forget to check out our 2026 Horror Preview as well!

Wuthering Heights (February 13th)

Emerald Fennell has really made quite the impact with films like Promising Young Woman and Saltburn. Now it’s time for her to adapt one of the most famous novels out there with Emily Bronte’s Wuthering Heights. It is “A passionate and tumultuous love story set against the backdrop of the Yorkshire moors, exploring the intense and destructive relationship between Heathcliff and Catherine Earnshaw.” Pairing Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi seems like the work of some mad genius. The Valentine’s Day release is sure to make this one another win for Fennell.

Crime 101 (February 13)

Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, and Halle Berry star in this action-thriller based on the work of Don Winslow (writer of Savages). Directed by Bart Layton, whose American Animals was quite the Sundance gem eight years back, this is the kind of adrenaline-charged original fare you don’t get too often in theaters anymore. Here’s the synopsis:

Set against the sun-bleached grit of Los Angeles, CRIME 101 weaves the tale of an elusive thief (Chris Hemsworth) whose high-stakes heists unfolding along the iconic 101 freeway have mystified police. When he eyes the score of a lifetime with hopes of this being his final job, his path collides with a disillusioned insurance broker (Halle Berry) who is facing her own crossroads, forcing the two to collaborate. Determined to crack the case, a relentless detective (Mark Ruffalo) closes in on the operation, raising the stakes even higher. As the multimillion-dollar heist approaches, the line between hunter and hunted begins to blur, and all three are forced to confront the cost of their choices–and the realization that there’s no turning back.

project hail mary

Project Hail Mary (March 20th)

Andy Weir writes some of the most interesting science fiction of the modern era and it’s been far too long since we got an adaptation of one of his other big works, The Martian. The story involves: “Science teacher Ryland Grace (Ryan Gosling) wakes up on a spaceship light years from home with no recollection of who he is or how he got there. As his memory returns, he begins to uncover his mission: solve the riddle of the mysterious substance causing the sun to die out. He must call on his scientific knowledge and unorthodox ideas to save everything on Earth from extinction… but an unexpected friendship means he may not have to do it alone.” While the trailer gave away a little much for my liking, it’s hard to count against Ryan Gosling in the entertainment department.

Disclosure Day (June 12th)

I’m still not sold on the title, but it’s hard not to be excited at the concept of Steven Spielberg returning to the world of Aliens with this UFO thriller. With a cast that includes Emily Blunt, Josh O’Connor, Wyatt Russell and Colman Domingo, this look very intriguing. Plot details are still pretty scant but it looks more in line with Close Encounters than War of the Worlds.

Toy Story 5

Toy Story 5 (June 12th)

It’s always interesting to see what new obstacles the filmmakers manage to put in the way of our favorite toys, and the plot for Toy Story 5 seems like a long time coming: “Woody, Buzz, Jessie, and the rest of the gang’s jobs are challenged when they’re introduced to electronics, a new threat to playtime.” With all the main cast returning, plus fun additions like Conan O’Brien, it’ll be nice to see another story within this world. While the third entry provided the perfect ending, the fourth proved that there’s still some juice left in the tank, and I’m excited to see what they do with this one.

Supergirl (June 26th, 2026)

The second film in James Gunn’s DCU has some pretty high expectations going in. But if Superman was any indication, we’re in for a much less gloomy version of a Superhero movie. And while we just got a taste of her last year, this origin story should give us a better overall picture of what Supes’ cousin has been up to. Plus, it’s going to be awesome to see Jason Momoa’s Lobo chomp on a cigar in a role that he was born to play.

the odyssey

The Odyssey (July 17th)

I’m not sure if there’s any other film releasing that has the level of hype of this film. With opening day showings already being sold out for the last 6 months, there’s nothing quite like a Christopher Nolan movie. For those that never had to read the book in school, The Odyssey “After the Trojan War, Odysseus faces a dangerous voyage back to Ithaca, meeting creatures like the Cyclops Polyphemus, Sirens, and Circe along the way.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day (July 31st)

There’s a certain excitement to any new Spider-man moving coming out and, thankfully, we’ve never been too many years without one. With Shang-Chi director Destin Daniel Cretton taking over behind the camera, it’ll be interesting to see what he brings to the table. Even more exciting is that this should be putting Spidey more street level and allow us to see him less MCU-afied. Though, it’s hard to say since this will also be featuring a tons of other characters like Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk, Jon Bernthal’s Punisher and Sadie Sink’s mystery character. Here’s hoping they allow the character to be a bit more independent and less reliant on what’s going on with the rest of the MCU.

The Social Reckoning (October 9th)

I would have never expected there to be a sequel to David Fincher’s The Social Network yet here we are. And honestly? I’m actually pretty intrigued. A lot has happened in the world of Mark Zuckerberg since the creation of Facebook and it will be interesting to see how writer Aaron Sorkin (who is now taking over directing duties) presents the story which follows “Frances Haugen, a young Facebook engineer, who enlisted the help of Jeff Horwitz, a Wall Street Journal reporter, to blow the whistle on the social network’s most guarded secrets.

The Hunger Games: Sunrise of the Reaping (November 20th)

I’ve been pretty let down by many of the films in the Hunger Game series so when I tell you this one has me excited, just know that I’m a hard sell for these. But having read the book that this one is based, this is easily the best story yet and I can’t wait to see some of these scenes come to life. The casting has been perfect and it’ll be great to see Haymitch’s time in the games. Plus, it’s cool that they were able to get Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson back, even if it’s likely just a bookends role, where Harrelson’s Haymitch is likely telling them his story. Either way Sunrise of the Reaping “Explores Panem 24 years before Katniss’ saga, starting on the morning of the reaping for the 50th Hunger Games, where a young Haymitch Abernathy participates.

Avengers Doomsday (December 18th)

It seems like just about everyone who’s ever put on a supersuit is returning for Doomsday, not to mention Robert Downey Jr, whose Tony Stark famously died in the last Avengers teamup. Whether it’s Marvel calling a hail mary and trying to save the MCU is irrelevant if they’re able to pull off a massive spectacle that brings in the money. And they’re doing a great job of building that hype already as there have already been multiple teaser trailers (four revealing different characters returning). The story appears to feature Doctor Doom going after the children of famous superheroes, causing them to all band together to try and take him out. We’ve got the OG X-Men returning.

Dune 4, Denis Villeneuve

Dune Part Three (December 18th)

Part of me thinks that Dune is going to move at some point to avoid Doomsday. I just can’t imagine it competing with a behemoth like an Avengers film, but I guess crazier things have been done. We’re still following Timothy Chalamet’s Paul Atreides but given how crazy the source material gets, I’ll be curious to see how it translates to a movie, as it’s always felt pretty unadaptable. Though, if anyone can do it, I’m sure Denis Villeneuve is up to the task.

As questions about the fate of Warner Bros. and DC Studios continue to circulate in the face of a monumental merger, one thing is for sure: Kara Zor-El is about to put the DC fandom under her bright red boot and press as hard as she can. That’s right, folks! Today’s the day we’ve been waiting for, as the first genuine look at Supergirl breaks the internet, reminding us that the era of Gods and Monsters is upon us!

After months of anticipation and some teasing on James Gunn’s behalf, a teaser trailer for Supergirl is here, and it’s packing enough punk rock energy to make fans of comic book cinema raise their horns in celebration and prepare themselves for a version of Kara Zor-El their parents won’t recognize.

What’s Supergirl about?

Supergirl will be directed by Craig Gillespie and scripted by Ana Nogueira. It’s based on the comic series Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, written by Tom King and illustrated by Bilquis Evely. After her father is murdered and the one responsible is still out there, a young alien girl named Ruthye Marye Knoll seeks out Supergirl to help her on a vicious mission. She wants revenge, and if Supergirl doesn’t help her, she’ll do it herself, whatever the cost.

Who stars in the movie?

Supergirl stars Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El, aka Supergirl, Matthias Schoenaerts as Krem of the Yellow Hills, Emily Beechum as Alura, Jason Momoa as Lobo, David Krumholtz as Zor-El, and Eve Ridley as Ruthye Marye Knoll.

Ahead of today’s trailer reveal, we were lucky enough to attend a spirited Q&A hosted by James Gunn, featuring Milly Alcock and Supergirl director Craig Gillespie. During the event, Gunn posed a variety of questions to the duo, giving us more insight into Alcock’s version of Kara and Gillespie’s unique vision for the film.

Why Supergirl? Why now? Why Craig? Why Milly?

Gunn: When Ana Nogueira wrote the Woman of Tomorrow script, it was fantastic. And at DC Studios, we care most about the writing. And so we just instantly greenlit the movie. Now, it was something that I was very interested in making from before we even took over DC Studios.

I remember when the novel first came out, the graphic novel first came out before, when Peter and I were kind of talking about taking over DC, but hadn’t decided yet. I called Peter. I said, “Have you seen this book by Tom King, Woman of Tomorrow?” Told him how great it was, what an interesting take it was on Supergirl. And I said, “You know who would be great? You’ve seen that little blind girl in House of the Dragon? I think she would be great because it’s a rock and roll Supergirl.”

Regarding Craig as the ideal director for Supergirl, Gunn said, “Craig is one of my favorite directors, has been for a long time. He directed I, Tonya, which was my favorite movie from that year, but also many other movies that I enjoyed. And so when he threw his hat in the ring to direct this film, we were more than interested, and now here we are.”

Craig Gillespie on the challenges of making such an iconic superhero come to life on the silver screen

Gillespie: It’s twofold for me. One, when I heard that James and Peter were taking over DC, I was very interested because I love James’s work. I love the tone. I feel a kinship with James’s sensibility, which aligns with what I like to do. And I’ve always really admired that. The idea that they would now take over the studio felt like a huge opportunity. And then the script came along, and Ana’s script was so good. And the tone of it was the first time I’ve actually read a superhero script that I could understand and know what to do with it.

And I was all in. So, trying to then come in and see you guys and convince you. And then thirdly, Milly had already been cast. And I went and did my homework on Milly, and I watched the Australian television she’s done. I was already familiar with House of the Dragon, and I couldn’t be more excited about her as a lead. It’s a huge… That combination, that script with Milly, with you guys overseeing it, because the script goes to some very dark and hard places for the character. And I felt like you guys would double down on that. Milly, tonally, was perfect for it. And she’s got this vulnerability and this humor and this accessibility, but the strength and this seraphic nature that’s built into just her DNA that was perfect. So the whole combination, I just couldn’t wait to get in there and make my case.

Milly Alcock on comparing Supergirl to Superman

Alcock: She’s had a completely different upbringing. She was brought up on a planet that was dying. Everyone that she’s ever known and loved is dead. So that creates a very cynical, tough… She doesn’t trust a lot of people. She’s got a wall up. She’s got a very big wall up, and she’s very skeptical of people. And Clark is the opposite of that. He’s very overtly trusting. He expects the good in people. He’s had a very sheltered life and he’s also pretending. Kara never pretends. If she’s not feeling well, you will know. She doesn’t have a facade, which is really refreshing, actually, to play.

Gillespie on what Alcock brings to the role of Supergirl

Gillespie: She’s a rebellious spirit, Milly. And this character, she’s got a lot of armor and she uses her humor and her cynicism to protect herself. And there’s a real punk quality to it, and Milly just embraced all of it. It’s so effortless for her to dive into that role and do it with a certain sense of

compassion underneath, but you can feel the vulnerability, you can feel the fractures in what she’s struggling with, but she still has a toughness to it. And it’s a tricky dance. Tonally, it’s always a very tricky thing to find an actor who can do that dance of being in and out of the humor, but being grounded and feeling like it’s coming from an emotional place. And she does that beautifully.

Update: Not long after dropping a brand-new poster for DC Studios’ Supergirl, James Gunn posted another preview of the film to social media, alongside confirmation that the film’s official teaser trailer will arrive tomorrow!

The new preview features Milly Alcock’s Kara Zor-El rocking out to the classic track “Call Me” by Blondie. As the footage continues, we find Kara walking like a boss through a fog of smoke before downing what looks like the intergalactic equivalent of a “Flaming Moe” before catching a glimpse of Kara’s interplanetary adventures.

Original Story: Before the promised Supergirl teaser trailer arrives online, James Gunn is getting people hyped for the big reveal by dropping a brand-new poster for the upcoming superhero film starring Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El.

The brand-new poster features Milly Alcock’s Kara Zor-El, dressed in her signature suit, as well as a long brown trench coat and oversized sunglasses to conceal her hangover eyes. As Kara floats in front of her stylish insignia, the words “Truth. Justice. Whatever.” can be found in the bottom left corner of the print.

Previously, DC Studios co-chief James Gunn had teased that this version of Supergirl would be different from what we’ve seen before. “In our series we see the difference between Superman who was sent to Earth and raised by loving parents from the time he was an infant, versus Supergirl who was raised on a rock, a chip off Krypton, and watched everyone around her die and be killed in terrible ways for the first 14 years of her life, and then came to Earth when she was a young girl,” Gunn said. “She’s much more hardcore, she’s not exactly the Supergirl we’re use to seeing.”

While the world scrambles to make sense of the recently announced Netflix and Warner Bros. merger, it’s business as usual for James Gunn and the creatives at DC Studios. On Sunday, James Gunn took to social media to announce the arrival of a teaser trailer for Supergirl, which Gunn says will arrive this week.

What does the Supergirl teaser trailer announcement show us?

Gunn’s social media post features new footage of Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El, although it’s not in the way most fans would expect. In the preview, Kara looks a bit worse for wear and definitely hungover while waiting at a ramshackle “bus stop” for her ride (a massive ship) to arrive. As desert sand and dead grass blow around Kara, we find the Kryptonian shielding herself behind a pair of dark shades to block out the sun. Before the preview ends, the tease lets fans know that “the wait is almost over” to get the best look at Supergirl so far.

James Gunn has delivered some remarkable casting choices throughout his career, but he believes his best may still lie ahead. During a recent appearance on The Howard Stern Show, the DC Studios co-CEO revealed that casting Milly Alcock as Supergirl might be the strongest decision he’s ever made.

Supergirl, the movie, we’re editing it right now,” Gunn said. “Milly Alcock, who plays Supergirl, might be the best bit of casting I’ve ever done in my entire life. I think she’s absolutely stunning in the movie.

We caught our first glimpse of Supergirl at the end of Superman, when she drunkenly arrived at the Fortress of Solitude to pick up Krypto. But she will take center stage in the upcoming Supergirl movie. Directed by Craig Gillespie and written by Ana Nogueira, the film is based on Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, the comic series written by Tom King and illustrated by Bilquis Evely. After her father is murdered and the one responsible is still out there, a young alien girl named Ruthye Marye Knoll seeks out Supergirl to help her on a vicious mission. She wants revenge, and if Supergirl doesn’t help her, she’ll do it herself, whatever the cost.

Alcock (House of the Dragon) stars in Supergirl as Kara Zor-El, alongside Eve Ridley (3 Body Problem) as Ruthye, Matthias Schoenaerts (Rust and Bone) as Krem of the Yellow Hill, David Krumholtz (Oppenheimer) as Zor-El, Emily Beecham (1899) as Alura, and Jason Momoa as Lobo, a role he has longed to play for years. Supergirl will hit theaters on June 26, 2026.

The next installment of the Superman Saga is also underway. Gunn recently announced Man of Tomorrow, which is already slated for a July 9, 2027 release. “It’s a story about Lex Luthor and Superman having to work together to a certain degree against a much, much bigger threat,” Gunn said. “It’s more complicated than that but it’s as much a Lex movie as it is a Superman movie. I relate to the character of Lex, sadly. I really wanted to create something extraordinary with the two of them. I just love the script so much.” Production is slated to start in April 2026.

Bryan

It was not a surprise to anyone that this summer’s Superman has proven to be a big hit for the struggling DC film series. The James Gunn reboot seems to have struck a chord with its lighter tone and fun atmosphere than the previous films in the Snyderverse films. They hope to keep that momentum by bringing in the Woman of Steel in next year’s Supergirl. While they share a heritage, she has an entirely different attitude from her famous cousin. What should we expect from the next offering from the DCU?

Who’s In It?

Supergirl, title change

Milly Alcock

As seen at the end of Superman, Milly Alcock will play the DCU’s version of Supergirl. This take seems to be edgier than we have seen in the past. In past versions of her on screen, we have seen her have a similar story to Superman. In the comics, there have been numerous revamps, but this time, we seem to be seeing a version of the character that doesn’t seem to be taking her powers seriously.

Supergirl, Ruthye Marye Knoll, Eve Ridley

Eve Ridley

Most of her work has been in voiceover for cartoons, but Ridley can be seen in Netflix’s 3 Body Problem. Here she’ll be playing Ruthye Marye Knoll. She hires Supergirl to hunt down her father’s killer. Together they travel through deep space to find him.

Matthias Schoenaerts

If someone has been killed, then, of course, you’re going to need a killer. Matthias will be playing the evil Krem. Supergirl will be hunting him down throughout most of the film. Here’s hoping we get a good villain out of him. While we did have a lot of variety of villains in Superman, having Lex Luthor being the main antagonist didn’t let our hero unleash his full power upon him to defeat him. With this character, Supergirl should be able to punch him in the face. A lot.

Jason Momoa

He’s back! This time, he’s not playing Aquaman. He’ll be portraying the intergalactic bounty hunter Lobo. Honestly, this is a much more perfect fit for Momoa than the Aquaman character. Everything people complained about with his version of the Atlantian King will fit wonderfully in this character. His much more dude-bro attitude will work with this cigar-chomping character who likes to drive around on his space motorcycle and fight bad guys. This is the best casting we have seen in the DCU so far.

Krypto?

At the end of Superman, we learn that Krypto was not Clark’s dog but belonged to his cousin Kara. She has now picked him up after her partying trip off planet, so will we see everyone’s favorite superpup again? It would be surprising not to. He had been in a lot of the marketing campaign for Superman and seemed well-received by a lot of the audience. His inclusion brought a lot of happy moments during the last film, and he even got his own fancy popcorn bucket for people to buy. Seems like a no-brainer to bring him back. Plus, the story that is being adapted for the film includes him as a plot point. Speaking of . . .

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, CinemaCon

What’s It About?

It was said early on that the title of the Supergirl film would be Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. This easily ties the movie’s storyline into the 2022 Supergirl comics miniseries of the same name. Written by Tom King, the story focuses on Supergirl adventuring in space when she runs into a young girl who is seeking vengeance for her murdered father. King has said the story was influenced by the novel True Grit, which sees a young girl hire an old gunslinger to kill the man who killed her father.

This film version sounds like it will be pretty faithful to the comic, although with one significant change. Lobo was not in the original story. How he is brought into the story remains to be seen, but comic fans already know that more Lobo is never a bad thing. Through this story, we will probably learn more about Kara’s experiences after Krypton’s destruction and what her upbringing has been like. While everyone has the basic idea of Superman’s origin, Kara’s has changed repeatedly, so it will be interesting to see which one they will go with.

In some continuity, Kara is from Krypton and the daughter of Zor-El. She is sent to Earth alongside Kal-El to watch over him as he grows up. Her ship is delayed, and she later arrives to find that he has grown up and become Superman. In some versions, her ship was knocked off course, and she remained in suspended animation until her arrival. In others, her ship was knocked into the Phantom Zone, and once she was freed, she finally made her way to Earth. Most find a way to account for her younger age since Kal-El was a baby when he arrived.

Supergirl was written out of existence entirely after a streamlining of their continuity known as Crisis on Infinite Earths. Not long after, a character called Matrix showed up and had the ability to shapeshift. They morphed into a version of Supergirl that lasted for many years. She had all of Superman’s powers but was never of Kryptonian origin. Which version are they using for the DCU? Hopefully, we’ll see when it arrives in theaters.

When Can We See It?

It looks like this film will be the centerpole of next summer’s blockbuster season. The Woman of Tomorrow will be flying onto the big screen on June 26, 2026. The big question is going to be if audiences are ready for another character with the S shield on their chest at the movie theater so soon. While we’re used to seeing Marvel pump out 3 movies a year, DC has been a little less frequent in their offerings. On top of that, we just saw Superman punch out some characters this summer. Is it too early to go with someone with the same powers? Should they have offered something a little different to spread around some of the characters, a bit like Marvel likes to do?

Are you excited to see Supergirl on the big screen? Let us know in the comments below.

I just watched every movie and TV show featuring Supergirl with one goal in mind: to figure out why I’m so excited for the upcoming Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. Now that James Gunn’s Superman is out, I can finally say it: Supergirl is introduced in the film. And her introduction is one of the strongest parts. Superman (2025) takes the bold approach of skipping traditional origin stories. You’re just dropped into a party where everyone already knows each other—and they don’t feel the need to explain their shared pasts. But Supergirl’s arrival hits a little differently. To be honest, I’ve always had a bit of a blind spot when it comes to Kara Zor-El. I loved some Superman stories as a kid, but I’d never seen the 1984 Supergirl movie until this week. I skipped the CW show because, well, there were like a hundred Arrowverse series. Other than Sasha Calle’s version in The Flash, I’d never really explored the character. That ends now. In this video (embedded above), I’m diving into every major on-screen version of Supergirl to figure out who she really is—and what Millie Alcock’s version might look like in the 2026 movie. Yes, I also read DC Comics’ Woman of Tomorrow, and it was actually great—so go read it if you haven’t. Let’s rewind 40 years, from 1984 to 2025, and take a look at how Supergirl has been introduced across film and television, as well as the actresses who have played her.

SUPERGIRL (1984)

Helen Slater Supergirl actresses

Helen Slater plays Kara Zor-El, aka Supergirl, aka Linda Lee, in this very long, pretty ridiculous, but oddly charming film. Going in with zero expectations, I found myself kind of enjoying it—partly because her introduction is just so hilariously dumb. She’s on a refugee planet called Argo City, a pocket dimension that houses survivors of Krypton. There, she inexplicably gains access to the planet’s life-sustaining power source: the Omegahedron. It’s essentially their power grid… and they treat it like a dog toy.

Naturally, Kara accidentally launches the Omegahedron into space, and it crashes on Earth. She hops into a very cute spaceship, chases it down, and discovers that Earth’s yellow sun gives her Superman-level powers. Oh, and if you didn’t know—Supergirl is Superman’s cousin. The Omegahedron ends up with an evil witch (of course), and Kara—now using the alias Linda Lee—must stop her.

Here’s what I took from this version: Kara is styled as a kind of female counterpart to Christopher Reeve’s Superman. But while Reeve brought subtlety to his performance, Slater’s Kara is more exaggerated—still trying to project confidence as Supergirl, but very naive and wide-eyed underneath. She’s clearly in a beta phase compared to Superman’s polished heroism. I’m not rewatching this over Superman ‘78 anytime soon, but it’s worth seeing them side by side to understand the contrast. And yeah… Helen Slater is hot, though, right?

SUPERGIRL (2015–2021)

Melissa Benoist

Maybe I’m crazy, or maybe the Supergirl movie was just that dull, because I really liked what the CW did with the character. (Quick aside: Kara did appear in Season 7 of Smallville, but she felt more like the Terminator in a miniskirt—there’s not much to analyze there.) In the CW series, Melissa Benoist plays Kara Danvers, and right away she feels younger, more modern, and way more layered than previous versions. Yes, the origin story in the first episode is cheesy as hell, but it works.

We learn that Kara—Clark’s older cousin—was sent to Earth from the planet Krypton to protect baby Kal-El, but got stuck in a time rift and didn’t arrive until 24 years later. By the time she lands, Clark is already Superman, and Kara has to start from scratch. She’s adopted by the Danvers family, who know Superman and help her adjust to Earth. She doesn’t embrace her powers until her mid-20s, when she becomes National City’s protector with help from her sister Alex, Martian Manhunter, and even a Jimmy Olsen.

I watched season one of this show and honestly—I might just watch the whole thing. The CW shows are corny and already feel a bit dated, but some of them really hook you. Maybe I’m too simple, or maybe they were onto something. I’ll let you know after I finish it. Personality-wise, Kara is dorky, awkward, and working as an assistant to media mogul Cat Grant. She’s got the same bleeding heart as her cousin but is more cautious and unsure of herself. When she abandons a blind date to stop a plane crash, you feel the moment she realizes she’s meant for more than just office work.

So while Helen Slater’s Kara was ditzier and more unassuming, Benoist’s Kara is messier, tougher, and ultimately more relatable. Also… Melissa Benoist is hot, though, right?

THE FLASH (2022)

Sasha Calle Supergirl actresses

Up until recently, this was the version of Supergirl I was most familiar with. The Flash takes Superman’s Flashpoint arc and gives it to Sasha Calle’s Kara Zor-El. Say what you will about the movie—it has issues—but I think Supergirl was the MVP.

In the Flashpoint comic, Barry Allen changes the past, creating an alternate future where Bruce Wayne dies, Thomas Wayne becomes Batman, Martha Wayne becomes the Joker, and Superman is a sickly lab experiment kept away from the sun. In the film, they swap Superman for Supergirl. Calle’s Kara has been imprisoned, starved of the sun’s energy, and rescued by the Flash in time to help save the world.

This version of Supergirl is nothing like the TV one. She’s stoic, pissed off, and has no time for hope or optimism. And honestly, I don’t blame her. Compared to previous portrayals, this Kara is experienced, deadly, and all business. She’s not trying to be charming—she’s trying to survive. And yes, Sasha Calle is hot, though, right?

SUPERMAN (2025)

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, CinemaCon

Finally, we get Millie Alcock’s take on Kara Zor-El in Superman. Her appearance is brief but memorable. After Superman saves the day, he’s decompressing in the Fortress of Solitude when a hole blasts through the roof—and in stumbles a slightly tipsy Supergirl, still feeling the effects of the night before.

It’s immediately clear what kind of Supergirl this will be. After reading Woman of Tomorrow, it seems like Gunn and Alcock are leaning into Kara’s grief, insecurities, and emotional repression. But instead of wearing them on her sleeve like previous versions, Millie’s Supergirl is masking them with rebellion, bravado, and probably a lot of booze.

It looks like they’re setting up a story where she learns to turn her pain—her trauma over Krypton, the years she lost, her lack of direction—into something meaningful. And I’m really into it.

So that’s why I’m genuinely hyped for Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. But what do you think? Which of these actresses nailed the character best? Are you excited for the new movie? Let me know in the comments!

Superman finally lands the DCU on movie screens, and James Gunn’s new shared universe wastes no time in building its world. The Justice Gang is already present and helping Superman whenever they feel he needs a hand. Nathan Fillion is slated to reprise his role as Green Lantern Guy Gardner in the upcoming Lanterns series and the cousin of Kal-El, Kara Zor-El, is flying not far behind the man of steel for her own spin-off into the DCU. Early its development, Superman was originally said to be titled Superman: Legacy. Following suit, it was also recently confirmed by Gunn himself that Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow will be undergoing the Sean Parker-revision-treatment and simply go by Supergirl (“It’s cleaner.”)

Variety‘s social media page recently passed along a new teaser poster for Supergirl. In it, the Kryptonian is caught red-handed and sipping a slushie after spray-painting over the tagline for Gunn’s Superman, which used to read, “Look up,” now saying, “Look out.” The post from Variety reads, “James Gunn reveals the #Supergirl teaser poster, which flips the script on Superman’s ‘Look Up’ tagline. Supergirl opens in theaters on June 26, 2026.”

Supergirl

When asked if he was on set during the production of Supergirl, Gunn said, “I mean at the very beginning, but I’ve been pretty busy, as you might imagine. I was really involved at the script stage, but then [director] Craig [Gillespie] has just been such a great partner. He’s just been doing his thing. You never know how something cuts together, but right now it looks amazing. It’s really cool stuff.“

The film is based on Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, the comic series written by Tom King and illustrated by Bilquis Evely. After her father is murdered and the one responsible is still out there, a young alien girl named Ruthye Marye Knoll seeks out Supergirl to help her on a vicious mission. She wants revenge, and if Supergirl doesn’t help her, she’ll do it herself, whatever the cost.

Milly Alcock (House of the Dragon) stars in Supergirl as Kara Zor-El, alongside Eve Ridley (3 Body Problem) as Ruthye, Matthias Schoenaerts (Rust and Bone) as Krem of the Yellow Hill, David Krumholtz (Oppenheimer) as Zor-El, Emily Beecham (1899) as Alura, and Jason Momoa as Lobo, a role he has longed to play for years. Supergirl will hit theaters on June 26, 2026.

The upcoming Supergirl movie was originally announced as Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, but fans have noticed that James Gunn has recently been referring to the project simply as Supergirl on social media. In an interview with Rolling Stone, Gunn confirmed the title change, saying, “I think it’s just called Supergirl now.

Interestingly, this isn’t the first title shift under Gunn’s watch—his Superman film also dropped its subtitle, going from Superman: Legacy to just Superman.

Supergirl will hit theaters on June 26, 2026.

It’s been expected that Supergirl will make her first appearance in Superman. The highly anticipated launch of the new DC Universe (not counting Creature Commandos) is now less than a month away. I certainly don’t envy James Gunn at the moment; a lot is riding on the success of this movie, but I’ve got my fingers crossed that he can pull it off. Superman will hit theaters on July 11.

What do you think of the Supergirl title change? Do you wish they’d kept the Woman of Tomorrow subtitle?

Jeannot Szwarc

Filmmaker Jeannot Szwarc earned directing credits on 80 different projects over the course of a career that spanned more than 50 years – but most movie fans will likely remember him as the director of the shark thriller sequel Jaws 2, the time travel romance Somewhere in Time, and/or the DC Comics adaptation Supergirl. Sadly, Szwarc is no longer with us, as his Somewhere in Time star Jane Seymour took to social media to confirm that he has passed away at the age of 85. Seymour wrote, “Today, we say goodbye to a true visionary. Jeannot Szwarc was not just a brilliant director but a kind and generous soul. He gifted us many timeless stories, including Somewhere in Time, a film that changed my life forever. May his memory be a blessing, and may his artistry live on in our hearts.

Born in Paris on November 21, 1939, Szwarc graduated from Harvard University before getting his directing career started in the late 1960s by taking the helm of episodes of TV shows like Ironside, The Virginian, Alias Smith and Jones, and Marcus Welby, M.D., among others. In the ’70s, he continued directing for TV shows (Night Gallery, Columbo, The New Perry Mason, The Six Million Dollar Man, Kojack, The Rockford Files, Baretta) while also racking up credits on several TV movies, including Night of Terror, The Weekend Nun, and The Devil’s Daughter. His first theatrically released feature was the 1975 mutant cockroach horror movie Bug. That was followed by Jaws 2 in 1978. In the ’80s, he worked primarily on feature films – Somewhere in Time, Supergirl, Santa Claus: The Movie, etc. – but also made room in his schedule for TV work, including directing a couple TV movies and some episodes of The Twilight Zone.

As of the ’90s, he shifted back to working mostly in television. Over the last few decades, he directed Rockford Files TV movies and episodes of Boston Public, Ally McBeal, C.S.I.: Miami, The Practice, JAG, Numb3rs, Without a Trace, Heroes, Cold Case, Smallville, Fringe, Supernatural, Castle, Bones, Designated Survivor, Grey’s Anatomy, and more.

Swarz passed away on January 15th. Our sincere condolences go out to his family, friends, and fans.

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow continues to assemble its main cast as Deadline reports that Eve Ridley (3 Body Problem) is set to play Ruthye Marye Knoll, the young alien who teams up with Supergirl.

Milly Alcock will be starring in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, with the film set to be scripted by Ana Nogueira and based on the comic series of the same name written by Tom King and illustrated by Bilquis Evely. After her father is murdered and the one responsible is still out there, Ruthye Marye Knoll seeks out Supergirl to help her on a vicious mission. She wants revenge, and if Supergirl doesn’t help her, she’ll do it herself, whatever the cost. Matthias Schoenaerts (Rust and Bone) will play Krem of the Yellow Hill, the villain who kills Knoll’s father.

Craig Gillespie (Cruella) will direct the movie, but DC Studios co-chief James Gunn has teased that this version of Supergirl will be different. “She’s much more hardcore, she’s not exactly the Supergirl we’re use to seeing.” Production will begin early next year, with the film slated to be released on June 26, 2026.

The Supergirl movie will be the second theatrical installment of the new DC Universe, following Gunn’s Superman movie, which will hit theaters on July 11, 2025. It has been teased that Supergirl might appear in another DC project before her solo movie.

However, the first project to emerge from the new DC Universe will be Creature Commandos, an animated series featuring the voices of Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr., David Harbour as Eric Frankenstein, Indira Varma as The Bride, Maria Bakalova as Princess Ilana Rostovic, Alan Tudyk as Doctor Phosphorus, Zoe Chao as Nina Mazursky, and Steve Agee as John Economos, and Sean Gunn as Weasel. The series will debut on Max on December 5th.

Belgian actor Matthias Schoenaerts (Rust and Bone, The Danish Girl, Red Sparrow) is heading to the DC Universe for the upcoming Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow movie starring Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El. Schoenaerts joins the highly-anticipated adaptation of Tom King and Bilquis Evely’s Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow as the villain Krem of the Yellow Hills, who kills the father of a young alien girl. When the young woman crosses paths with Kara and ultimately pulls her into her orbit, Kara Zor-El and Krem come to blows.

Ana Nogueira (The Vampire Diaries, The Blacklist, Hightown) adapts King’s series for the silver screen with Craig Gillespie (Dumb Money, Cruella, Lars and the Real Girl) directing. Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is part of James Gunn and Peter Safran’s “Gods and Monsters” arc, which kicks off a new era of the DC cinematic universe.

“Kara Zor-El has seen some epic adventures over the years, but she now finds her life without meaning or purpose. Here she is, a young woman who saw her planet destroyed and was sent to Earth to protect a baby cousin who ended up not needing her. What was it all for? Wherever she goes, people only see her through the lens of Superman’s fame,” reads the official synopsis of the comic book. “Just when Supergirl thinks she’s had enough, everything changes. An alien girl seeks her out for a vicious mission. Her world has been destroyed, and the bad guys responsible are still out there. She wants revenge, and if Supergirl doesn’t help her, she’ll do it herself, whatever the cost. Now a Kryptonian, a dog, and an angry, heartbroken child head out into space on a journey that will shake them to their very core.”

“Superman is a guy sent to Earth and raised by loving parents, where Supergirl in this story, she is a character raised on a chunk of Krypton,” Gunn explained when the project was first announced. “She watched everybody around her perish in some terrible way, so she’s a much more jaded character.”

Schoenaerts is known for his roles as Booker in Netflix’s The Old Guard, Detective Lem Getweller from David O. Russell’s Amsterdam, and Django from the Spaghetti Western series Django. Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow gives Matthias Schoenaerts a fantastic opportunity to take center stage as he squares off with DC’s Angel of the Sky. Krem is responsible for some unspeakable actions in King and Evely’s story. I would not be surprised if Kara punched a hole through his chest. We’ll need to wait and see.

Supergirl

DC looks to have found its Supergirl director in Craig Gillespie, the man behind the camera for films like CruellaI, Tonya, and GameStop stock drama Dumb Money. In Deadline’s exclusive report, the outlet says DC plans to shoot the female-led adventure in Q4 after completing work on James Gunn’s Superman film. House of the Dragon star Milly Alcock stars in the highly-anticipated feature as Kara Zor-El (Supergirl) for the story based on Tom King and Bilquis Evely’s Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.

Last year, Gunn remarked that when it comes to Supergirl, “we see the difference between Superman who was sent to Earth and raised by loving parents from the time he was an infant, versus Supergirl who was raised on a rock, a chip off Krypton, and watched everyone around her die and be killed in terrible ways for the first 14 years of her life, and then came to Earth when she was a young girl. She’s much more hardcore; she’s not exactly the Supergirl we’re used to seeing.”

Gunn’s description of Supergirl is already ruffling feathers in the comic book community, with some readers saying this new version of the character is “off model.” It’s worth noting that King and Evely’s Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is a standalone story open to wildly different interpretations of the classic character.

Alcock edged out The Winchesters and Supergirl voice actress Meg Donnelly and CODA’s Emilia Jones for the role. While plot details for Gunn’s adaptation of Tom King’s Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow remain a mystery, the limited series with jaw-dropping art by Bilquis Evely has the following synopsis:

Kara Zor-El has seen some epic adventures over the years, but she now finds her life without meaning or purpose. Here she is, a young woman who saw her planet destroyed and was sent to Earth to protect a baby cousin who ended up not needing her. What was it all for? Wherever she goes, people only see her through the lens of Superman’s fame.

Just when Supergirl thinks she’s had enough, everything changes. An alien girl seeks her out for a vicious mission. Her world has been destroyed, and the bad guys responsible are still out there. She wants revenge, and if Supergirl doesn’t help her, she’ll do it herself, whatever the cost. Now a Kryptonian, a dog, and an angry, heartbroken child head out into space on a journey that will shake them to their very core.

King and Evely’s Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow presents a very different Kara Zor-El than most fans are used to. The story begins with Kara enduring a wicked hangover. As she cusses her way toward sobriety, Kara becomes mixed up in a mission that pushes her powers and heart to the limit.

What do you think about Craig Gillespie as the director of DC’s Supergirl? Let us know in the comments section below.

House of the Dragon actor Milly Alcock is ready to go up, up, and away as Supergirl for James Gunn and Peter Safran’s re-imagining of the DCU. Alcock’s casting as Kara Zor-El (aka Supergirl) for upcoming DC film projects happened yesterday, and since then, fans have been wondering how the actress beat out others for the high-profile part. Thankfully, Gunn shed some light on the subject through his Threads account, saying Alcock was the first person he envisioned as Superman’s Kryptonian cousin.

“In case you missed this exciting news yesterday. Strangely, Milly was the FIRST person I brought up to Peter (Safran) for this role, well over a year ago, when I had only read the comics,” Gunn said on Threads.

“I was watching House of the Dragon & thought she might have the edge, grace & authenticity we needed for the DCU’s Supergirl. And now here we are. Life is wild sometimes,” Gunn added about being dazzled by Alcock’s performance as Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen for the Game of Thrones prequel series.

Alcock edged out The Winchesters and Supergirl voice actress Meg Donnelly and CODA’s Emilia Jones for the role. While plot details for Gunn‘s adaptation of Tom King’s Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow remain a mystery, the limited series with jaw-dropping art by Bilquis Evely has the following synopsis:

How do you feel about the future of DCU? How do you think people will react to an edgier Supergirl? Let us know in the comments below.

Now that The Flash has hit theaters to reset the DC Universe, Awfully Good Movies is running back in time to watch the debut film for one of The Flash’s breakout characters, Helen Slater in 1984’s SUPERGIRL!

In between the disappointment of Superman III and the catastrophe of Superman IV, original franchise producers Alexander and Ilya Salkind decided to switch focus from the Man of Steel to his female cousin Kara Zor-El with an in-universe spinoff that’d have a cameo from Christopher Reeve himself to mentor his fellow Kryptonian and star Helen Slater in the young actress’ debut role. But after Reeve turned the film down before filming, and Warner Bros. grew so fed up with the Salkinds that they sold the distribution rights back to them, Supergirl would instead flop so hard at the box office that the Salkinds just gave up on the Superman film rights altogether, and it’s not hard to see why the Woman of Tomorrow failed here for reasons other than superpowered sexism.

From Slater’s flat lead performance that results from her badly written dialogue, to an incomprehensible plot about retrieving a magic power ball back for a visibly drunk Peter O’Toole before a visibly embarrassed Faye Dunaway uses it to magically take over the world, to special effects on Supergirl that look nearly as bad as her effects in The Flash, it’s no less of a disaster than pairing Superman up with Richard Pryor or nuclear powered musclemen. Still, Supergirl does deserve respect for being the first major female superhero in film history, even if the film itself doesn’t earn a single ounce of respect.

And hey, thank God this would be the last time that the names of Superman or Supergirl would ever be associated with a box office disappointment that suffered from the movie having subpar visual effects. Yep… nothing but cinematic quality from then on from DC… not a SINGLE problem!

Since Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav announced a “reset” for the company’s DCEU, rumors have been flying about the fates of several projects currently in development. “We are going to focus on quality. We are not going to release any film before it’s ready,” said Zaslav. “DC is something we can make better.” While this statement is ominous in ways that are difficult to describe, several of DC’s creatives are “pissed” about Zaslav’s slash-and-burn approach to building a better tomorrow. Besides shelving Batgirl, several other projects are in danger of being canceled, including some of the DCEU’s most anticipated and inclusive features.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, DC Films president Walter Hamada had big plans for the DCEU, including a more elaborate version of the famous DC comic event Crisis on Infinite Earths. A version of the story had already been adapted for television via The CW. However, Hamada was planning to present the story on a grander scale. Per THR’s report, rumors indicate that the villain team Secret Six would have been introduced as part of the plan. Additionally, development for films based on SupergirlGreen Lantern CorpsStatic Shock, and J.J. Abrams and Ta-Nehisi Coates’ Black Superman has slowed to a crawl.

However, proven high-profile products appear to be safe from Zaslav’s wrath. James Gunn’s Peacemaker, for example, is still on track for a second season on HBO Max. Insiders also say Blue Beetle starring Xolo Maridueña, will hit its August 2023 release date. Fans of Todd Phillips’ Joker can rest easy knowing that Joker: Folie à Deux is secure. Whether fans of the original will choose to embrace the sequel’s musical nature remains to be seen. Gird your loins for some epic commentary across social media when the first trailer for Joker: Folie à Deux hits, my friends.

Other projects remaining on DC’s slate of upcoming films include Black AdamAquaman and the Lost KingdomShazam! Fury of the Gods, and The Flash. “We’ve seen them. We think they are terrific, and we think we can make them even better,” Zaslav remarked about the studio’s upcoming offerings for superhero cinema. How the studio plans to spin the recent actions of Ezra Miller in The Flash and Amber Heard’s contributions (if any) to Aquaman 2 remains a mystery.

The slowing of development for the SupergirlGreen Lantern CorpsStatic Shock, and Black Superman is nothing more than whispers at this time. We’ll be sure to keep our ears open for any further developments.

What do you think about the state of DC Films right now? Do you think Zaslav and the company are on the right track to success? Let us know in the comments below.

The CW, Arrowverse, DC Programming

The Arrowverse lost three series in the wake of cancellations at The CW which left only two shows on the lineup from the DC Universe before they officially picked up Gotham Knights to series. The Flash and Superman & Lois are returning for another season, although they won’t be on the fall schedule and are being held until midseason. The network lost DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, Batwoman, and Naomi so it looked like the network was leaving the superhero world behind, especially as a sale of The CW lingers in the background. Despite the cancellations, network President Mark Pedowitz is giving a positive statement about the future of DC programming.

While speaking with the press before The CW’s upfronts presentation, via Variety, network President Mark Pedowitz insisted that they were “staying in the superhero business”, despite the cancellation of some of their DC programming. He reminded members of the press that The Flash and Superman & Lois remain on the schedule and they’ll be joined by Gotham Knights, a series the network is very high on. Even though all three of those shows won’t be on the fall schedule and are launching midseason, DC’s Stargirl, which takes place in a parallel universe outside of the Arrowverse as we know it, it’s moving into a prime spot on the fall lineup for its upcoming third season.

The network will also continue to work with Greg Berlanti, the mega-producer who has had his hand in every major Arrowverse series after he co-created Arrow itself back in 2012 with Marc Guggenheim and Andrew Kreisberg. Berlanti has been a co-creator on every Arrowverse series except for Black Lightning and Batwoman, although he is listed as an executive producer on both of those series as well. When speaking about Berlanti Pedowitz said, “We are staying working with Greg Berlanti, who has masterminded creatively The CW DC Universe.” Also, even though there aren’t as many superhero shows on the lineup now, he believes that, even with the sale, Warner Bros. will see the value of these shows as The CW transitions to its next phase:

“So we’re not as robust as we were in the past, but still very much there. We started with one — this was ‘Arrow’ 10 years ago — we have now moved to create a whole bunch of superheroes. And we’re proud of it and we plan to stay in that business. No matter what the outcome is, with any event of sale or no sale. I think the Warner side realizes the value of having these properties up. DC Comics realizes the value of what it does to their marketability, in terms of what these franchises are.”

Essentially The CW as we know it is going to evolve and change. That can’t be ignored. Mark Pedowitz couldn’t speak on the sale but it did seem to play a part in what series were renewed, canceled, or picked up. It should be promising to fans of DC programming on the network that they picked up Gotham Knights to series. If they were trying to get out of this branding, that show wouldn’t have been developed for the network. The Arrowverse may not look like it did when Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl, and Legends of Tomorrow were going strong but we should give it a chance to transition into this next phase of what the network will become.

Do YOU think The CW will continue to develop DC programming and Arrowverse shows?

After the relative failure of Superman III at the box office, Christopher Reeve was understandably reluctant to continue with a franchise that has seemingly lost its way. However, the Salkinds were still keen to continue the saga and thus decided to spin the series off by introducing Superman’s cousin, Kara Zor-El, aka Supergirl. The 1984 film would be directed by Jeannot Szwarc, who had a hit with Jaws 2 and had previously directed Christopher Reeve to great effect in the romance Somewhere in Time. Demi Moore, Brooke Shields, and many other actresses were considered to play Supergirl, but Helen Slater, a virtual unknown, was eventually chosen.

Whereas the original Superman had Marlon Brando and Gene Hackman supporting the unknown Reeve, here the Salkinds managed to entice Peter O’Toole (coming off two Oscar nominations for The Stunt Man and My Favorite Year) and Faye Dunaway (at her career nadir following Mommie Dearest) to co-star. Everyone hoped Christopher Reeve would make a cameo, but in the end, only Marc McClure (Jimmy Olsen) agreed to be in the film.

Supergirl would be one of 1984’s biggest financial disasters opening to poor reviews, bad box office, and even being scuttled by the studio that initially financed it (Warner Bros). In the end, it only grossed just over $14 million in the U.S. and, adding insult to injury, the film saw over 20 minutes of footage excised for its belated theatrical run, while many involved landed Razzie nominations. So what happened? We’ll tell you in this week’s edition of DC Films Revisited: Supergirl!

The industry was hit with a bit of surprising news that The CW network may be up for sale. WarnerMedia and ViacomCBS are potentially looking to sell and one of the buyers could be Nexstar.

According to The Wall Street Journal, Nexstar, which owns 199 local TV stations and the cable channel NewsNation and The Hill, is one of the largest owners of the CW stations. Mixed in with this news of the potential sell is that the network, which features shows like The Flash, Riverdale, Batwoman, and many more, has not been profitable since its formation in 2006.

A reason for the network’s lack of profitability is that Warner and ViacomCBS have been renegotiating international broadcast rights for CW shows as each company wanted to move these shows onto their own streaming services, HBO Max and Paramount+. The CW once had a long-standing pact with Netflix to reach a broader audience but the pact ended in 2019.

The original plan, according to The Hollywood Reporter, was that the network would feature content that was a 50-50 split from Warner and CBS. However, mostly due to the popularity of Greg Berlanti’s Arrowverse, Warner became the dominant provider of the content for the network. Arrow kicked off the Arrowverse in 2012 and its popularity led to several connected series that include The Flash, Supergirl, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, Superman & Lois, Batwoman, and the upcoming Naomi.

CW CEO Mark Pedowitz did confirm in a memo to staff that the network is being shopped around but also said it was too early to speculate about what might happen. Pedowitz encouraged staff by saying, “So, what does this mean for us right now? It means we must continue to do what we do best, make The CW as successful and vibrant as we have always done. We have a lot of work ahead of us — with more original programming than ever, this season’s expansion to Saturday night, our growing digital and streaming platforms — and we thrive when we come together and build The CW together.”

The big question is what happens to all of these shows if Warner no longer has majority ownership over the network? Warner has already been trying to bring all of the DC shows over to HBO Max because they want to make their streaming service the primary spot for DC television. They made similar moves when they moved the DC Universe exclusive shows like Doom Patrol, Harley Quinn, Titans, and Young Justice, over to HBO Max. I imagine this would be the case for the Arrowverse shows if they lost a majority stake over at The CW.

Do YOU think the sale of The CW will go through?

When Sasha Calle makes her DCEU debut as Supergirl for Andy Muschietti's The Flash, she'll be stepping onto the scene in some brand new threads.

Muschietti revealed a close-up look at Supergirl's suit on Instagram on Friday, giving us a detailed view of its intricate design. As you can see from the photo posted below, the suit has a bit of flair while still maintaining a classic look. By flair, I mean that there's some gold etching across the chest. The etching itself looks a bit floral to me, but, for all I know, it could be Kryptonian symbols. It's worth noting that The Flash's suit also includes an interesting new pattern. Perhaps these are markings left by a corrupted timeline or Speedforce?

Warner Bros. and DC Films have tried and failed to get a Flash movie up and running for quite some time. Of course, now that Andy Muschietti is on board, things seem to finally be moving at a steady clip. The project finds Ben Affleck reprising his role as Batman, for what we assume will be the last time, and Michael Keaton returning as Bruce Wayne/Batman. Ezra Miller is once again playing the title character, with Sasha Calle, Kiersey Clemons, Maribel Verdu, and Ron Livingston also set to star. Filming began in April 2021 at Warner Bros. Studios in Leavesden, England, with the film sprinting toward a November 4, 2022, theatrical release.

In the series Arrow David Ramsey played John Diggle/Spartan throughout all eight seasons, as well as made guest appearances on Supergirl, The Flash, and Legends of Tomorrow, and according to Deadline, Ramsey is slated to return to The CW's Arrowverse for guest appearances that will be spread across multiple shows.

Ramsey will be reprising his role of John Diggle in upcoming episodes of Superman & Lois, Supergirl, The Flash, and Batwoman, and will also be playing a "mystery role" in Legends of Tomorrow that is currently "being kept under wraps." The last time we saw Diggle was in the series finale of Arrow in which he witnessed the crash of an object from outer-space and discovered a mysterious box containing something emitting a green glow. It's been assumed that the contents of the box was a power-ring and that Diggle will become the new Green Lantern, so perhaps that's something we'll see play out across the five episodes. In addition to appearing in five episodes across the Arrowverse, David Ramsey will also be directing five episodes, having previously helmed two episodes of Arrow. In a statement, David Ramsey said:

I remain in awe of the imprint these shows have had on television and I’ve been blessed for the better part of a decade to be a part of them both in front of and behind the camera. To say I’m excited beyond belief to return to the Berlantiverse would be an understatement. I can’t wait to continue telling these stories.

As far as the future of The CW's Arrowverse goes, Arrow concluded earlier this year with its eighth and final season, but there's still plenty of Arrowverse to go around as the second season of Batwoman will debut on January 17, 2021, the fourth and final season of Black Lightning will debut on February 8, 2021, the seventh season of The Flash and the first season of Superman & Lois will debut on February 23, 2021, and the sixth season of Legends of Tomorrow and the sixth and final season of Supergirl will launch mid-2021.

Supergirl, Melissa Benoist, The CW

Melissa Benoist will be taking her last flight as Supergirl as it has been announced that The CW series will be coming to a close with its upcoming sixth season. The final season was delayed earlier this year due to COVID-19, but while other shows have already resumed shooting, Supergirl remained dormant in order to accommodate Benoist's pregnancy. Production on the sixth and final season is expected to get underway later this month and will consist of 20 episodes that will debut in 2021.

The Arrowverse lost its flagship series earlier this year when Arrow came to an end after eight seasons, and when Supergirl concludes, the small-screen franchise will be kept alive by The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow, Black Lightning, and Batwoman. There's also a new series just over the horizon with Superman & Lois, which will see Tyler Hoechlin and Elizabeth Tulloch reprising their roles as Clark Kent/Superman and Lois Lane from Supergirl. Given how often the Arrowverse shows cross over with one another, I wouldn't be surprised if we saw Melissa Benoist make a guest appearance on one of the other shows after her own has ended. Benoist made a statement on Instagram, saying "To say it has been an honor portraying this iconic character would be a massive understatement. Seeing the incredible impact the show has had on young girls around the world has always left me humbled and speechless. She’s had that impact on me, too. She’s taught me strength I didn’t know I had, to find hope in the darkest of places, and that we are stronger when we’re united. What she stands for pushes all of us to be better. She has changed my life for the better, and I’m forever grateful. I’m so excited that we get to plan our conclusion to this amazing journey, and I cannot wait for you to see what we have in store. I promise we’re going to make it one helluva final season."

Are you sad to see Supergirl come to a close?

Look, up in the sky! It's a bird! It's a plane! Wait a minute … Nope, it's a new teaser trailer for SUPERMAN & LOIS that honors the heroes (and villains) of the Arrowverse!

The new teaser begins with the Arrowverse's main man, Green Arrow, who helped launch a new era of extra-normal entertainment with ARROW in October of 2012. Since that time, Arrow has paved the way for a variety of superhero series on the CW, including spinoffs The FlashSupergirlDC's Legends of TomorrowBlack Lightning, and Batwoman. The new trailer gathers all of your favorite heroes for an exciting look back at many of their thrilling adventures, as well as a peek into the future, when Superman and Lois triumphantly arrive on the scene.

Superman & Lois, The CW, superhero, Arrowverse

"What if this wasn't the life we were meant to have after Crisis?" Tyler Hoechlin's Clark asks in a voice-over, as he brings an ax to a pile of firewood on Kent Farm. Next, he speaks directly to his sons off-screen, saying, "Your mother is planning a trip." While the teaser doesn't provide us with any clues as to where Lois is off to, I'll eat my hat if she's not planning to investigate some ne'er-do-well who has underestimated her tenacity for discovering the truth.

"This family needs Smallville, as much as the world needs Superman," Clark proclaims near the end of the teaser, as we're treated to a shot of the mild-mannered reporter using his super strength to lift a truck while Lois fixes it from beneath. I'd also posit that the CW needs Superman, as fans have been wanting more from Big Blue for several years running. Add Lois Lane to that equation and you've got the makings of a great addition to the Arrowverse.

Production on Superman & Lois recently resumed in Vancouver, after a months-long shut down due to the coronavirus pandemic. With cameras ready to roll and heroes ready to take to the skies, it might not be too long before we have a new and full trailer for this highly-anticipated series.

Superman & Lois, which is set to debut in January 2021, stars Tyler Hoechlin, Elizabeth Tulloch, Dylan Walsh, Alex Garfin, Jordan Elsass, Emmanuelle Chriqui, Inde Navarrette, and Wolé Parks.

DC FanDome had its virtual global event on Saturday and I have to say it lived up to all the hype. This was a well-orchestrated and organized event that showcased that DC finally has its act together and they are ready to play with the big dogs at Marvel.

So why did DC FanDome pull off its virtual event much better than July's Comic-Con@Home? The big reason is that DC FanDome gave fans exclusives to be excited about. I saw fans online who were complaining all week when Warner Bros. dropped the news that Ben Affleck was coming back as Batman or that Matt Reeves unveiled the official logo for THE BATMAN, that we wouldn't hear any news of significance at DC FanDome. What Saturday proved was that they had more to offer and that DC may actually be on track to rival itself with the well-oiled machine of Marvel. Comic-Con@Home didn't offer us any sneak peeks or trailers to speak of. A lot of what was presented were pre-recorded panels that were generated to build hype but they landed with a thud. Even if any of the DC FanDome panels were pre-recorded, the news that each panel dropped made it feel like a fresh and live event to be a part of.

No question the biggest reveal of the event was the trailer for THE BATMAN which, given that only 25% of the movie is completed according to director Matt Reeves, presented enough footage to indicate that Christopher Nolan may not be the only person to get the Caped Crusader right. It was nice to see on social media, after the trailer dropped, that the Robert Pattinson naysayers who believed he couldn't live up to being Batman started to change their tune. The trailer was the very definition of why DC FanDome succeeded. Give fans something they didn't expect to see and let the hysteria and hype spread.

Zack Snyder's JUSTICE LEAGUE was also a highlight of the event. We learned that his four-hour vision will be split into four one hour episodes which might serve his vision better than being digested in one sitting. Was the trailer epic? Not in my opinion but, I respected the fan delight from those who saw it and continue to make the Snyder's Cut the second coming. Someone asked me what would this hype be like if it was for a good film but I honestly think what we're going to get is going to be much different from the cut we got in theaters and now I'm on board, albeit, reluctantly.

Not one to miss a moment for publicity, Dwayne Johnson helped present new tidbits about BLACK ADAM, a sequel of sorts to 2019's SHAZAM! Perhaps the biggest news about BLACK ADAM was that his foes the Justice Society would be introduced. Noah Centineo’s Atom will also get his moment and get to go on a “journey of what it means to be a superhero."

THE SUICIDE SQUAD didn't present a trailer but its roll call footage was enough to build hype as we finally got to see who will be playing who in the highly anticipated sequel from director James Gunn. The director said during the panel that THE SUICIDE SQUAD was "by far the most fun I've ever had making a movie," which may have surprised some fans who expected his Marvel efforts to take that spot. Gunn also praised the extensive special effects, many of which were shown in a video reel that mixed behind-the-scenes footage. Cast members joined him for a laugh-filled trivia game, and Gunn answered fan-submitted questions. He was most excited to write for Harley Quinn, he said, mentioning that the character has a "chaotic trickster god" element.

WONDER WOMAN 1984 showcased a new trailer that showed off Kristen Wiig's wild-haired look and animal-print costume as villain Cheetah. Perhaps the biggest reveal from this panel came from director Patty Jenkins herself who said that WONDER WOMAN 1984 would be released theatrically no matter what on October 2, 2020. Hopefully, we'll get to see the film on the big screen as planned.

At the end of the day, DC FanDome proved it could be a yearly event. I can only imagine what it would be like if the event was held live, with fans and in person. What really stood out to me was that there something about this event that felt very similar to how strategic Marvel has been in the past. What DC FanDome proved was that DC has a new plan to take over the big screen and what's coming may very well be their moment.

What was YOUR favorite moment from DC FanDome?

Update: Yet another teaser trailer has been released for ZACK SNYDER'S JUSTICE LEAGUE ahead of tomorrow's DC Fandome extravaganza!

As you can see, there isn't much to the new trailer beyond showcasing each member of DC's Justice League, but I'll be damned if they don't all look as if they're ready to kick some serious ass for Snyder's long-awaited cut of the film. We'll have boots on the digital ground tomorrow during DC Fandome and will be bringing you the latest from all of the online celebration's most-anticipated panels and more!

Original Article:

The DC FanDome Event is just two days away and since director Zack Snyder is a master marketer, he's teasing us with a snippet of his trailer for his cut of JUSTICE LEAGUE. The full trailer is expected to drop at the heavily hyped DC FanDome event on Saturday.

While other DC directors have pre-recorded their segments for the event and are patiently waiting for the Saturday, August 22 panel at DC FanDome, Snyder has been ringing the bells to get his fandom primed for a massive reveal during his Snyder Cut presentation. He has spent this entire week sharing exclusive images from his upcoming version of JUSTICE LEAGUE, which has included photos of the pending Hall of Justice, Victor Stone (Ray Fisher) in his football gear, and Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot) in the heat of battle. This is a director that is clearly happy that his vision for the film will finally be realized and he's stoked to share it with a fanbase that has been at his side, patiently awaiting its arrival. I'm sure after Saturday, the wait for his cut to hit HBO Max next year will feel even longer.

Are you hyped for what Zack Snyder is going to bring to DC FanDome?

The big DC FanDome Event already seemed like an unprecedented virtual global experience but due to a bit of fan demand, the event is being expanded into two global experiences to ensure that fans get everything they desire from the world of DC.

DC FanDome has been expanded into two global events — the first on August 22nd, 2020, – DC FanDome: Hall of Heroes, and a second on-demand experience in DC FanDome: Explore the Multiverse on September 12th, 2020, where fans can get creative and curate their own adventure. Fans can also access their FanDome experience across all mobile platforms (in addition to desktop). The idea behind making these two events separate is that fans won't have to stress about missing out on any part of the experience.

At the DC FanDome: Hall of Heroes: On Saturday, August 22, at 10:00 AM PDT, fans will be transported into the DC FanDome: Hall of Heroes, an epic world designed personally by Jim Lee featuring special programming, panels and exclusive reveals from a wide variety of films, TV series, games, comics and more. The eight-hour show will be available for fans around the world to watch exclusively 3x in the 24-hour period.

At the DC FanDome: Explore the Multiverse: On Saturday, September 12, at 10:00 AM PDT, fans will be able to create their own timeline! The great thing about this event is that it will be on-demand, giving you the ability to curate your own unique experience via their Official DC FanDome Online Scheduler Tool. A lot of the content that you saw from their multiple islands will now be housed here and will be available for you to watch throughout the 24-hour period. Fans can now choose their own adventure and will have more time to immerse themselves in all the hours of curated programming at their own pace and on their own schedule.  This also allows the folks at DC to provide the best user experience, and will now not only be available on your desktop computer but across all mobile devices. DC Kids FanDome will also launch on Saturday, September 12, 2022, at its own kid-friendly companion site at DCKidsFanDome.com.  All content from both events will still be available in nine languages, including Portuguese, Chinese, English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, and Spanish.

The DC FanDome Event is going to be the ultimate fan haven for all things DC. Movies being represented via panels at the event include THE SUICIDE SQUAD, THE BATMAN, Zack Snyder's JUSTICE LEAGUEBLACK ADAM, and WONDER WOMAN 1984. The television side will also make its presence known with panels for The Flash, Doom Patrol, Black Lightning, Stargirl, and DC's Legends of Tomorrow.

Will YOU be checking out the DCFanDome global event?
